Sony FZ - massive price drop?

I just was on the sony site, and the FZ series now starts at $849.99...

That's over $200 off the price from last week, and you can now get a 2.2ghz fz with 120gb hardrive and 2gigs of ram for $1048...which was its old start price.

WHAT?!

 

I havent checked the prices of the FZ series lately but thats technology...

 

i read on amazon or something that it was going to be discontinued..

 

WHAT?!!! It better not be! I thought the FZ was one of it's best sellers?!

 

Will they come out w/ a new FZ 300? Or will it be something totally diffrent?

Should I wait for teh new model or take advantage of the low price?!

 

You better buy it now, this is a crazy price for such a god notebook.

 

But will I regret it after a new, better one comes out? and what new things will the replacement have? theres no new chips out that the vaios don't already have...Only thing they could do is a style/design update.

 

No - there's Penryn, which is coming early 08, to update the Santa Rosa platform.

It won't get a better graphics card, it's not a gaming notebook.

It will shed some weight off of it, have another color option - all black maybe?

These are my guesses, which is not enough to keep anyone form buying now.

 

True. I am big on style though, so do you think they will come out w/ one in colors on the lid. Because that would be devestating if I bought one and then they came out w/ color. For me anyway. True about the Penryn..Hmm. I wonder what a sony CS would tell you?

nope this price drop is atrocious. But they are in backorder if you configure any system with other than T5250 processor.

My config in my sig costed me $1220. Now I can get a better config for almost $150 less. Sony, this is not fair!

Who knows if there will even be a new FZ...maybe they will come up with a whole new model.

I'm starting to think they are just dropping the price. Thanksgiving is the biggest buying time in the US. I think they also know that penryn models will be coming out so they want to be rid of the older chip?

 

I am not going to worry about the new models, I got what I could for now and am out of cash, I have a laptop that can read HD DVD's and one that can read and write Blue Ray DVD's and for now I am very happy. Heck if we try to keep up with technology we would always be broke and under a huge amount of debt , so I am stopping before I get into that kinda situation and am still ahead of the game. LOL!!!

 

It says in stock with a estimate ship date of 11/20 with a 7500.

 

Why is it atrocious? And why is it "not fair"? Did you expect the prices to remain constant forever? Hello, this is the real world here. Quit whining.

I don't know if they will I've never any price matching done by Sony, but it's definitely worth asking. Maybe call a couple times, and see what different representatives have to say.

 

I bought mine back in July, 10 days later it had dropped $100. I emailed them and they gave me back $100. I guess you can try, I didn't expect anything but I was surprised when they did.

 

If not, you can return the FZ you bought, and just rebuy one at the discounted price.

I wouldn't do it if you have one that has no build issues currently, because you might get a bad apple.

 

They are giving me 250.00 back.
