I'm going to buy the Sony FZ140 very soon. I just had a little question maybe you owners could answer for me. I was at Best Buy and while the notebook was on standby, I turned it on. It came on all fine but in a matter of seconds, the screen would shut off for about a second or so and then turn back on. I've tried this a few times and always the same result. Is this normal? If it is, isn't it annoying everytime you turn the computer on from standby, you're using it and all of a sudden, the screen shuts off?
EDIT: Actually, it's when I logged into Windows after standby this happens.

I believe this has to do with Vista's external display detection. It can be turned off if you don't use an external display.

It is, indeed, the external display detection code. This code serves two purposes. One, when you connect an external display it brings up a panel to allow you to setup how you want to treat the external display, or applies setting you previously told it to remember. The second thing, and the one many folks overlook, comes into play if you sleep or hibernate your machine with an external display connected and a window dragged to the second display and then awake the machine WITHOUT the second display. Without this bit of code, any open window on the second display becomes an "orphan" and can be very tough to get back on the main display. With this code, it automatically moves all secondary screen windows back to the primary screen.
For me these features, especially the second one, are well worth that momentary blank screen. As to "If it is, isn't it annoying every time you turn the computer on from standby, you're using it and all of a sudden, the screen shuts off?" To me, no it isn't. The blank screen happens so quickly after the machine is back and lasts such a short time, that there is no way anyone is actually "using" the machine yet.
