I am having problems with my new Sony FZ180E notebook - Vista. I have had it for a month.

When the vaio is plugged in to AC power, and i attempt to turn it off via the start menu's shutdown, it turns off and about two seconds later reboots to desktop. when the vaio is plugged in to ac power and i attempt to place it in hibernate or close the lid nothing happens and the screen stays awake and active.

If the vaio is running off battery power when the above things are conducted, it performs as it should. I have got around this problem by unplugging the power cord prior to shutdown to turn it off.

I have attempted to fix the problem by deselecting auto shutdown in my computer - properties, to no avail.

Does anyone else know the solution to this frustrating problem? Thanks

It could be a faulty battery circuit. Also, what do you mean by auto shutdown, is it when you close the lid, the laptop shutsdown?

sorry my error. i meant auto restart option. i have read on various sites re: vaio shutdown problems. they are different problems to mine, but most suggest deselecting the auto restart option in my computer, properties, advanced settings. that did not fix the problem.

this problem was not there from the start, has only started in the last fortnight or so.
