Temporarily disable UAC (pull the slider all the way down). Remember to set it back after you're done.

Yes, there might be a solution. Open Device Manager>Right click on that device>Select Update driver and select manual search on the computer>Search folder is Drive C. If doesn't help try to install it again and search again.

Have you guys looked at this "patch"? It doesn't seem to do anything other than run the previously installed software over again. I opened the patch exe in 7zip and its just a batch file with the following instructions:
    Code:
cd "C:\Windows\Drivers\EXE\Sony Firmware Extension Parser Driver"
    install.bat

WooooAAAoow! ReYally?! So it seems that 7-zip is Ultimate unpackaging software now, rAIght?? And if it says that inside 1mb file there is just a 75 Byte bat-file then wAt? Windows is telling lie?

And how did I get it then out of there?

I had the same result using 7-zip. Nothing in that .exe but the install.bat :)

Hmmmmmmmm. Try to launch updatemodule in that attached archieve. Also search in Windows folder for "Sony".

Is your temporary Directory is on another drive? I mean it always worked before.

Thanks for this thread, I registered to add my comments after getting this thing working - the tips you guys gave solved it for me. The path in the v8.1 'driver' (lol) is obviously wrong.. there's no c:\windows\drivers directory in my Windows 8 installation. The objective is to take the Windows 7 driver, unzip it out of the install .exe, then go to the windows device manager and manually point the unknown device to the driver. It will confirm that it's the right driver and work.

The trick was, after downloading the version 7 driver and finding it didn't install either, to do this:
-- Run the installation for the version 7 driver. Let it get up to the last 'Finish!' screen but don't click Finish. At this point it's got the driver in a temp directory and hasn't cleaned up yet.
-- Run Windows File Explorer and search for install.bat -- to speed it up you can search in just your temporary directory, or you can search the whole C drive
-- When you get the results and have an install.bat located in a temp directory shown, left click it, then right click and select 'open file location'. This will contain the unpacked v7 driver
-- Copy everything in there to some other safe place
-- Now you can click 'Finished', and the temp version will be deleted. You can go to Device Manager, tell if you have a driver for the unknown device, point it to the place you copied the driver, and boom, head shot.

Finally, I dunno this thing actually does, I can't notice any difference!! :) (lol I am not allowed to say w.t.f.? Wh. Th. Fu! How Nanny!)
