    I know
You must select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).
And then Don;t search I will choose the driver to install.

Then HAVE disk and install even if it says is not digitally signed.

    ATTENTION.

You must first install the USB composite from original drivers of VISTA.
and the DPinst32. to from this folder of drivers for VISTA.

I'm having problems finding the audio (sigmatel) and modem (conexant) XP drivers for my fz140e. Do you know where I can download them from? Sony.com only has Vista drivers available.

    Thanks in advance.

    piclzfan,

I also have a fz140e that I installed XP Pro on. Here is what I did to get the modem to work.

    1. Download and install kb888111 from http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=47079. Note it is a .rar file and you have to expand it using winrar or similar program before you can install it.
    2. Restart your PC. Now you will see 2 exclamations points in the device manager.
    3. Now go to this site. http://www.conexant.com/support/md_driverassistance.html
    4. Click agree and download the file named HSFhda_WinXP.zip Please read the names carefully and pick one that matches exactly. Expand the file after downloading.
    5. Go to device manager and right click on the one of the exclamation points the one that says modem and click update driver.
    6. Click "No not this time." Then click "Install from a specific list..." Next click "Don't search...". Then click "Have Disk" and "Next". Finally Click "Browse" and point to where you unzipped the driver that you downloaded.

If you just try to run the setup.exe file from the driver that you downloaded, it may just hang and not install the drivers.

Now if you figure out how to get the sound working, let me know.

I did a clean Vista install on my FZ190 CTO and ran into the exact same problem. I got the volume buttons to work but not the brightness or "S" button.

This drove me crazy for a bit but then finally found I could get them to work by installing an update from Windows update. This is listed in my update history as "Sony Corporation driver update for Sony Notebook Control Device".

This definately was the fix that got those buttons to work in Vista (I did a subsequent Vista reinstall and that verified it).

I'm not sure if that helps you out for XP installs as this update my not be availalbe in XP but it will solve this problem if anyone does a clean Vista install.

But first step, try windows update in Vista and see if this fix comes up.

Here's the solution: Reformat and install vista, because the FZ is never going to accept XP.

If you want a laptop to run XP, this isn't it.

sure the FZ will accept XP . you just need to add sata drivers to the XP installer...

actually it doesnt work fully functioning and that in my opinion as well if not acceptable.

XP will not allow the brightness to work or the power options to work, so unless you laptop is plugged into the wall, which many are not the computer dies relatively quickly compared to Vista with power saving turned on.

    ?!?!?

I have windows XP PRO SP2 running in my FZ21E, it works great. Only thing misssing is the sony library, meaning the Function Keys don't work. everything else is working just fine, after a week reading and searching for drivers of course... still I can survive with a "manual" editing of brigthness.

We have to solve this. People who have FZ with Nvidia, solved it. So we will, I hope.

Thank you Paul, we got it finally! Hooray! See instruction below. Works perfectly for my FZ140E/B with Intel X3100, Hope it will help for another "happy" owners of integrated intel crap.

    Hi all,

Updated version of the backlight utility for VGN-NR110E and other related models. Thanks very much to Tux for his help. Download at:

    http:/(slash)rapidshare.com/files/89532709/backlight.zip.html (noobs can't post url there, ***)

    and do the following:

    1) Run MemAccDrvSetup.exe to install the registered version of memaccess. You can install over the unregistered version from before if you installed the previous backlight utility.
    2) Install the visual c files if necessary: run vcredist_x86.exe
    3) Run backlight.exe. No config file is necessary. Use WIN-F5 to decrease brightness, and WIN-F6 to increase brightness.

    Cheers - Paul AC Chang
