Hi,
I recently bought a GRT100, having read a bunch of decent reviews.
I picked mine up new at a bargin price but then decided to do a complete reformat to get rid of all the sony stuff and upgrade to XP pro (mine came pre-installed with home).
I made the backup cd's from the hidden partition, but I can't read the media (very cheap cd-r's) so when I installed XP pro and downloaded all the drivers from the sony vaio site, I realised I was in trouble.
Basically, I can't get hold of powerpanel or the function keys utility or even the volume control (bellow the touchpad) drivers. Also I think my usbs are only running at 1.1 standards, because it feels a lot slower than before. So there must be a bunch of drivers I'm missing.
I also seem to remember there being a driver for specific mpeg decompression for my machine.
Does anyone know where I can get these files from? I've tried Sony but they replied by saying I have to buy a set of cd's and get them shipped over to me (I'm currently living in the UK) which is too expensive!
I would recommend this machine highly, but the support from Sony has been abismal in my caseIf only the software, as basic as function keys, were avaiable online!
Cheers...

My experiences have been that you're going to have to search for the original drivers or alternates. Sony only puts some of their drivers on their website, probably because of the proprietary nature. Sometimes, you can find the drivers you're looking for from 'alternative' sources on the web.
If you know of anyone with the same machine, you can have them just copy the drivers for you. Instead of making rescue disks, I just do this because I really don't care about the free software. Usually the drivers are located either in the Windows directory on your root drive, under the Drivers folder or in the hidden Sony partition. Just have someone zip them up and send them to you. -
Sadly I don't know anyone with a GRT series sony.
If anyone does have a GRT series sony (any will probably do as they share the same function keys and same volume control keys) and a lot of spare time on their hands, or are just generally a very helpful person, give me a shout!
