Does anyone know the rotational speed of the 80GB drive on Sony's new GRT380ZG?

Incidentally, I asked Sony support, and was told that they didn't know and I should ask them again in a few days. Should I take this as an omen of bad support to come?

I don't know for sure, but assume it's 4200, which is standard for that size in the notebook world. There's an outside chance it's 5400, but I really doubt it.

Sony only offers 4200 RPM spindle speed hard drives in their GRT series. Why they don't offer faster is beyond me.

Also, their technical support people don't know what speed they are talking about. In fact, when I inquired as to the speed of the memory they stated 533 Mhz. Lol. We all know that is the speed of the front side bus. [ ;)]

Johnnie Godwin here--new owner of GRT 360 ZG. Haven't even unboxed it yet, but I did lots of research via Slat and others. One of my concerns was customer support, so I checked Consumer Report, which admittedly gives the good/bad, pretty/ugly of all the line; but customer support got bad marks. So I especially went the warranty route with good tech help locally. Repair record was almost equal to Toshiba overall. Y'all may know all that, but I didn't until yesterday. Incidentally, thanks for a high quality forum and good info.--Johnnie G
