Hi guys, I just registered here because I've encountered a very annoying problem with ISB utility.

I own a vaio Z620d and I'm trying to do a clean install of windows vista business. I downloaded all the latest drivers and utilities from sony support site but whenever I finished installing the Sony utilities, I'd get this error complaining about my battery is not supported/authenticate. Even though the battery is the sony one from the box itself!

I know that you can prevent the ISBMgr from launching in the msconfig, but I do not want to do that. As I read from a post that the ISB utility controls the FN Keys and Eject Button.

This is really frustrating as the dialog box pops up every 10 seconds. What should I do?

You can safely uninstall the Battery Checker program without any harmful effects.

    Rajesh,

He could uninstall it, you are right. But it sounds to me like there is some issue with his installation. Rather than wiping away the symptoms (the error message) I'd think he should try to find the cause of the disease. My worry would be that because of whatever the underlying issue is, the battery may not be charged correctly, or at all.

I had a similar problem, you either need to finish installing the rest of the driver or utilities or need to install it in the correct order.

    thanks for the replies guys.

i'm installing the stuff according to the order as listed in this post:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=293880&highlight=isb+battery+checker

but that still didn't work out.

Another problem that I have is when I install the ethernet driver, the ethernet controller in the device manager still shows an exclamation mark on it with no drivers. Why is this happening? The ethernet driver I download from sony support site.

How do I uninstall the specific battery checker program? I check under programs and features and it is listed as Sony Utilities. But if I uninstall that, I'd lose out the other stuff that comes bundled with it.

You can prevent it from auto-start using msconfig or Changing the service start up to manual.

This was what I was refraining from doing. Because from what I read, the FN and Eject buttons are controlled by the ISBUtility. If I disable that service, does that mean I lose my FN and Eject keys function?

The ISB utility doesn't control the fn key functionality. In my FZ I didn't even install the ISB utility (Battery Checker - part of Notebook utilities).
