    Hi guys/girls,

Ive been having a problem with my laptop since Friday. Basically i went to turn it on and it didnt turn on so i cleaned all the dust out of the charger and my battery and tried it again and it managed to turn on. However, after being on it for around 15 minutes it just cut out on me. And now every time i go on it, it cuts out after a little while of it being on. I then cant turn it on for around an hour then it manages to turn on and then cut off and im back to square one.

Its nothing to do with the charger because that works fine so its clearly something to do with the hardware. Has anyone had problems like this before and is it easy to sort out? Shall i head down to my nearest Sony shop and enquire there?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Since it can run for a little while, there should'nt be anything wrong with it, except maybe the power supply. What does the battery icon say, i.e, what percentage is the battery? Maybe the AC adapter is not connected properly so it is not charging at all. Tell us what the battery icon says when you manage to turn it on.

Another thing that may turn itself off is heat. Install coretemp (free download), and see what temp you get. It should be about 60c idle. Maybe it is too hot, with the fan not running, that it turns it off, and when it cools down, you can start it again. If this is the case, use compressed air and blow on the air intake grill and also the fan grill to see if you can dislodge the dust.

    what do you mean cut-out?

just have black screen suddenly? or does it comes with error message? windows stop message (aka BSOD).

it does sound like overheating component. is the fan working properly? try to hear for abnormal sound?

is the vent choked full of dust?

try to run HWMonitor, download from
    www.cpuid.com/
see how hot the system gets, before it cuts out.

does the computer cut out sooner when doing heavy task?

    try to run system diagnostic.

    run memtest. www.memtest.org
    1) download memtest.iso
    2) burn it to disc
    3) insert the disc
    4) restart start from disc
    5) let it run in for a few pass.. overnight maybe, it will loop the test.
    6) exit the test when it do 1 or more passes, it might not catch the bad sector on first pass.

otherwise you might have a faulty parts cpu, motherboard, etc. do you still have your warranty? if not, i suggest you start looking at new computer, coz replacing or looking to find the problem could get expensive and might not solve your problem.

It says TJ max 85%, Core 0+1: 46%?

The battery icon shows that its charging and is currently at 80%.

I have no error message it just turns itself off without saying 'Windows is shutting down'. On Saturday i did turn it on and it went through a process of trying to fix it and it went on to try and do a system restore.

Backup your data, and do a system recovery. Turn off computer, turn it on and hit F10 (maybe F8), it will go into system recovery, and will ask you question about reformating, install OS in C: etc. It is a simple process. If you want to get rid of the Sony's bloateware, follow my guide here:

Post #672. It is for TT, but the same principle will aplly.
