I keep mine in a pakuma K3 backpack fits really nicely and is excellently protected, i highly rate the backpack! The backpack is also very comfortable on my back and has loads of other pockets plus plenty of space to put things in. I have had mine quite a few months now and the bag is still in excellent condition because it's a very tough bag, the zips and materials used are very strong.

I decided to preorder the AR390E on Feb 28, and according to an email I received from Sony, it has now shipped! It's being delivered to a friend, who will hopefully bring it here to the UK on Thursday, assuming it arrives on time (I selected 3-4 day express shipping).
I shall let you know when I receive it, and will give impressions and maybe even a review of this awesome machine.
Anyone else have this on preorder from sonystyle.com?

Has any one had the problem i am experiencing with my AR21S laptop, when you use the 3.5 jack headphone plug to pass stereo to and amp the sound is contaminated with terrible computer noise this only occures with the mains plugged in if removed it clears this is not very good as the battery life is short so if you are listening to over an hours of music the battery goes flat so you have to plug the mains back in.Sony says that the problem is due to hum from incompatibility between my laptop and amp because of ground loop problems which i find bazar coming from a company as large as sony anyway i have tried plugging in to a new digital amp and some small external computer speakers with the same result.
ok you can use the optical out which does cure the problem but limits options that this otherwise good kit is able to give its owner can anyone help has any one tried to connect the laptop to an amp this way? regards Paul

    Hi,

I've just ordered an AR21S, and picked up a couple of 2.5" 160GB SATA drives to replace the 100GB drives. Has anyone any experience of replacing the hard drives, do you rebuild the RAID array from the BIOS or is it worth keeping the RAID option ??

    Thanks

    Jason.

Got the AR390E finally, and it's amazing. Only one question, how do I get the audio to work when I hook up to an HDTV using HDMI cables? I watched Casino Royale blu-ray using this method yesterday but had to use the Vaio's speakers instead of the TV's. Any help?

    Hey,

i have a quick question about my Sony AR31M.

The left side and center of the keyboard seem to be great. ly the keys on the lower right side (enter/shift/page ug/arrows/ctrl) make a different 'click' sound and only that part of the keyboard (lower right side) has a little flex. Delete, backspace and Home keys don't have this...

Does anyone else has this? And even more important, does anyone have a solution for this, can it be fixed?

Have you switched sound outputs on your VAIO? To do so, go to Control Panel ==> Hardware and Sound ==> Manage Audio Devices ==> Click "Digital Output Device (HDMI) ==> Click Set Default, then restart your computer.

All audio will now be piped to the digital out, then if you want to return to the inbuilt speakers, change the above option back to "Speakers/Headphones" as the default.

Nope - those keys on my AR21S act exacty the same as all the others and I assume the chasis is the same on all AR laptops.

Regarding installing WinDVD when Vista is manually installed on AR21S/AR31S - I've been trying to get this work for ages (I have an AR21S with Vista Ultimate 32-bit installed) as my copy of Casino Royale Blu-ray arrived the other day.

Anyway, the PAC file that is concerned isn't listed in the normal app recovery list, but is under the path AR3\SP-013065-00.pac on the second recovery CD. However, once it has been extracted using KCAP, the installer complains it doesn't work with Vista and exits immediately. :S

I don't really know where else to go. Has anybody spoken to Sony about this? I can't play Blu-ray movies on my laptop even though I paid for a blu-ray drive.

The only way I can think of getting it to work is by borrowing a recovery CD from someone with an AR31S so that we can use the Blu-ray player that ships with this model as it definitely will work with Vista. However, I'm not sure this is legal so it look's like I might have to buy a separate license from Cyberlink or WinDVD.

Dual boot is the best answer, I've just got my AR21S and upgraded to 2 x 160GB's, and I'm in the process of figuring out 2 seperate clean installs of Vista and XP from scratch.
The restore DVD is good but still full of a lot of unnecessary stuff . . .

WTF is the problem with Vista BTW ?? WinDVD BD for Vaio is fine under Vista give a full install of all other drivers / utils / apps !!

I installed Vista twice, my only problem was the Creative install of my Audigy Notebook :)

Nothing, I love Vista and would never change back to XP, however I can't get WinDVD BD to install. Could you explain in detail how you managed to do this?

I recently purchased AR21s second hand with hard drive missing. Anyway have had problems with windows xp not recognising hard drives (I have installed 2: 100gb and 120gb) during installation. They are recognised in the bios.

Have tried to install RAID drivers and SATA from sony website during installation without luck. Anyone any ideas how I can install windows?

Sony tell me I have to use the recovery disks which i don't have. They want me to buy the cds off them for a stupid price! If anyone willing to burn me a copy from their working sony ar21s, I would be happy to pay fee for privelage.

    cheers for help
