I have windows 7 RC installed on my VGN-SR 430J/B. I download Sony Notebook Utilities drivers. I got an error message that battery is not compatiblie, press OK to hibernate. I uninstalled it immediaty, but I may want to install it again. How can I avoid this?

You have to extract all the files from Sony Notebook Utilities (look up one of the threads, use some Extract software, I forget the name). And you'll install only some of the components, and not the battery checker, because it seems to have issues with Win7 right now. Not sure how to can install it.
Alternatively, you can go to msconfig and disable this battery utility from loading at startup. -
Do I really need the Notebook Utilities driver?
-
Well, it contains the Event Service, for making your Fn buttons work, and also displaying the OSD when you change volume/brightness. But some people mention that they could get this to work without the software. It contains a power management utility (not sure if it's helpful). Also has the control center to let you work with Battery Care and some other stuff. They list what software is included on the support/driver website.

theres an order of installation: start with sony shared library(restart), sonyutils(restart), sony video shared library(restart), vaio power management(restart), battery checker(restart), hdd protection(restart), setting utility(restart), battery care(restart), control center(restart), event service(restart), status monitor(restart), ps ql(restart), hardware diagnostics(restart).

I got sony shared library.
So thing to do is...get an .exe extracter, remove the battery check file from the driver installer download, then install it? -
This is the guide I followed here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=355715
You don't need most of this stuff, but I did this on SR290 that I have. -
Ok I downloaded the Notebook Utilities installer and through Uniextractor I extracted the files. Then I went in TEMPEXEFOLDER and deleted BC (battery checkup - the problem). I tryed to install it but as the BC is now missing, I get an error message and it exits the installation

So you have to run the EXE inside each folder, eg if you want to install Event Services, go to SES2 (sony event services, 2(?)), and you run it for each individual folder for the particular utility that you want. I think you're trying to run SonyNBSetup.EXE?

You're right on the money, didn't think to try each individual file.
Thanks eli. rep'd.
