Ok, I've managed to get my Vaio up and running with a fully clean Vista 32-bit install, everything is functioning smoothly - all drivers installed, all hardware working, Protector Suite installed, Vista activated, etc.
However, the only little thing which doesn't seem to be normal is that after Windows has loaded, it seems to take another 30 seconds for the Notebook Utilites and Sony's Event Service to start in the background, I can see this as the Vaio Power Management console is not yet available, the Brightness Function keys do not work yet, and when you click on power options in the System tray (the little plug/battery icon) and try to change the setting (to Vaio Balanced, High Performance, Optimized, etc.) you can't quite yet. The mouse is still hovering and the cursor is 'circling'. After about 30-40 seconds after the rest of Windows has loaded does this seem to function.
Ok this is a bit of nit-picking but anybody else experiencing this 'trouble' ?
I've reinstalled Notebook utilities and the Sony Shared Library but that doesn't seem to speed up anything.

Ok after quite some testing I don't really think the problem lies with Notebook Utilities, as I left it (and the Sony Shared Library) til last and already noticed that when Windows loaded there was always quite some minor hard disk activity after the Welcome screen loaded up...lasting for 40seconds..during which time when I clicked on Power Management for example the cursor would keep circling...it felt Windows had not properly loaded. With Sony Notebook Utilities installed now it seems the Event Service only fires up after this 40seconds background loading of Windows and that is why its taking a while for the brightness keys and everything to work as they have to wait for Windows first...
Any ideas what the problem could be? Intel Chipset driver? Something with the graphics drivers?
I've ruled out Sony Notebook Utilities, Sony Shared Libraries, Sony Video Shared Libraries... -
try not to think too much >_> I didn't so semi/full clean install. I only have MSN + skype + sony utilties in the system tray @ startup, Yet, utilties won't load up like you said. until a bit later.
I think it's just how Sony utilties are designed in vista can't load up fast for some reason (not a programmer.) like the famous 1~2min delay boot-up time from the good old Norton. -
The thing is, like I updated in my second post,...the problem seems to exist before I install Notebook Utilities too...which is making me think its something else...
Sony Notebook Utlities taking a while to load up?
