Hi, i wondered if anyone could help. I have a sony vaio TR2 model. I purchased it second hand recently and do not no much about its history. It has unfortunately a cracked screen.
I have been trying to connect it to an external monitor both CRT and LCD. However, when connected to the CRT (via the vga lead) the windows startup screen comes up for about 5 secs (windows xp picture with processing bar underneath) and then when it starts loading the monitor switches off. When connected to an LCD (via VGA), it says 'no signal' from the laptop.
I can however hear the windows start up theme on the laptop. I am asured that it was working fine prior to the screen damage but without replacing the screen (which i was not looking to do just yet as its bloody expensive) i was hoping to use an external monitor for now. I have tried the vga connection on another laptop and it works fine so must be the laptop. Could it be on different frequency, missing driver or something.
So does anyone know why the laptop is stopping the signal after the windows start up and what i can do so that the monitor displays properly.
Thanks
Seb

Are you familiar with the FN keys? They are the keys that are marked in blue (above the F1-F11 keys is the blue print). You access these keys by holding the FN key (down in the lower left side of the keyboard) and than pressing the button you want to use. The FN key is like a "SHIFT" key for the buttons marked with the blue text. One of the buttons across the top (I forget which F5 or F6) is a key that enables the external monitor. Read up on it in the users manual online at Sony's website. That will send the signal to your vga port so your external monitor will operate. I hope that helps.
