My brother handed on a PCG-Z600TEK [mod. PCG 5316] which he said didn't work. Well it did, but now it doesn't! It came with 3 recovery discs and Windows 2000 Professional.

When I first got it I ran the recovery discs successfully and installed all the Windows updates. Then I thought I'd better get virus protection before I did anything else and installed AVG Free. After installing and running AVG for the first time the computer would no longer boot under Windows with or without the CDs.

I thought I had a good idea. I decided to FDISK. BIG MISTAKE! [I also wanted to FORMAT but have been unable to do so thus far - probably just as well!] Entering the BIOS and selecting 'Load Default Values' of course no longer works.

The pc will still boot to CD and I have [I think!] partitioned with the default partition [C: 12GB D: the remainder] but I noticed the pc logged an 'error' - "unknown partition request" which it seems to ignore. When it comes to restoring the OS etc [Partition restorer v 2.58] it gets to 5% before this error:

ERROR. INCOMPATIBLE IMAGE IN USE. Contact tech support.

So here I am! There are no blue screens although there were before I tried the initial repartitioning. I think the underlying problem is insufficient memory. But first things first; go to get the OS up and running!

Many thanks - any help/advice much appreciated.
