Hey guys, glad I found this forum is the first thing I have to say really, couldn't find another one that was so active and relevant to my laptop issues!

Anyway, down to business - recently purchased a brand spanking new SZ2XP/C from Dixons Tax Free in my UK airport. (Think it was last Monday). It's a fantastic machine, except that the DVD makes the most horrible sound when it's spinning. It sounds like a nasty vibration but the DVD drive can't be removed so I can't try reseating it. It happens every time and it really is unbearable. Just wondering if this is a common issue or if I'm going to have to bite the bullet and take back my first notebook (not first owned, just first time returned). :(

Anyway, look forward to your replies. I'm guessing it's just a faulty unit in which case I have a few questions:

Do I take it to a Dixons Branch (was told to go here by the Dixon's Tax Free guys)?

Do I send it to SONY (already registered for warranty on the website)? How long does sending it to SONY take?

    Thanks guys (and ladies),

    Marky P

I just saw your post and wonder what the resolution was? I just got my sz360 2 days ago and it has the same problem. It reads cd's and dvd's but makes a horrid buzzing noise if I move it at all while the drive is spinning. I just spent these last 2 days configuring it for hours and hope the drive can just be replaced instead of having to replace the whole laptop. Thanks in advance.
