Hi all,
I ordered a docking station from Sony, and it seems they have changed the description to no longer include the power adapter. From Sony, a branded Vaio VGP-AC19V26 for the Z costs $89 which is pretty outrageous to me.
All over Ebay there are adapters that are supposedly compatible with the VGP-AC19V26. For example, here is a link for one for $10:

Does anyone have experience with non-branded chargers? I can understand wanting to avoid other off-brand parts, but as long as the adapter puts out the set voltage and can provide the needed current, is there any other reason to pay 10 times the price to have Vaio written on it?
Please note that I am not in any way trying to promote that particular listing, and in fact there are tons of other listings all over Ebay with similiar/better deals - and nearly all of them have 10s of thousands of positive reviews.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

I ordered one too and complained but they said that is was a mistake...and you should use the laptop AC adapter...yeah right!

I would be carefu with non-branded products from an unknown source.
Do you know that most class 2 laser pointers are more powerful?
The same could happen with your adaptor.
You may not be getting what it says you get.
I notuiced my Sony adaptor delivers more than it says on the casing (Voltmeter), but its the original, supplied with the laptop, so I'm not worried.
No if your "cheap replacement" fries the electronics inside Sony would say, sorry your fault.
Of course there are some exceptions to it. If for example you got to a shop and buy a product that is meant to be compatible, also because if that dmages your product you'll possible be able to pressurize the manufacturer (of the cheap replacement) to repair dmage caused by their product.
On a Canon SLR, I could have gotten a "non-original" battery for half the price, I still went with the Canon battery for warranty reasons. Also because I ahve a 5 year warranty (from the shop) on it.
Another aspect: Was it 10% or 90%? I don't know any more, but it was a horribly high number, denoting the percentage of fake good of the world trade. You may buy a "sony product" on Ebay and then find its an Asian made fake that ruins your laptop.
Also one of the resons I dislike Ebay and have never used it.
My advice, to be on the safe side, with crucial parts, stay away from possibly damaging products.
