I recently upgraded my S580's HDD to a Hitachi 7200RPM.
Now I have only got one question. I see a black rubber tape fastened to the bottom of the former HDD, like as if its meant to keep out dust from entering the visible metallic spindle we all see beneath any normal HDD. So am I to remove the rubber and re tape it on the new HDD. What exactly does this rubber do.

One more thing, does anyone know if sony will be releasing a BIOS update that enables booting from a flash media or USB flash drive

Sorry I can't answer your questions, did you check the upgrade guide here at notebookreview.com for the S-Series if something is mentioned?

I was wondering if you could comment on your experiences with the new HDD regarding speed, battery life, noise, etc.
    Thanks
