The Sony S-580 Series now has the option to include the NVIDIA GeForce Go 6400. The upgrade requires the 512 MB option ($50) and costs $70 over the standard integrated graphics option.

The FS series will follow suit in the coming weeks.

That's hilarious! I did the exact same thing last night too! I was actually going to order it earlier in the afternoon, and my CC wouldn't work right... I'm sure glad it didn't! Now... anyone know how long it takes Sony to to piece a laptop together???

are any of you concerned with the heat issues on the right wrist that there are already posts about from experienced owners?!?!? I really want to order one, but I am all freaked out ATM, my other choice was the Compaq V2000z but I am starting to shy away from it again because of what I'm hearing about the battery... even thogh I love everything else about it (except that its 14" and not 13.3, lol).

Why does buying a laptop have to become such a big deal. lol :) I cant seem to find just one thing that will work out. I'm not asking for a perfect laptop.......... Doesn't Sony test their own laptops with HUMANS as test subjects to see if any of their supposed upgrades actually work? You'd think it would be an issue, right?

Yeah, buying a laptop does take a little more effort, because you can't really mix and match parts like you can when you build your own desktop... About the heat, I wouldn't worry too much about it. All laptops that have a decently fast processor have some leve of heat issues; if it's not the wrist area, then it'll be burning your lap when you set it on your legs, or something else... Keep in mind that with most modern mobile processors (like the one in the S5x0 series), you can download programs that will throttle their speed (and the resultant heat) when its not needed. And when you run them off of an AC adapter, they run full speed (with full heat). It's all a tradeoff, and I would try to visit a local big-box store like Best Buy, Circuit City, etc, and just feel how hot all of them are... That's what I did, and I just concluded to not worry about the heat issue. Keep in mind that all the ones in the store displays are running off of AC, so they'll also be putting out full heat then too....

Ive checked the s580 out and concluded the heat really is not much of an issue, especially compared to the earlier s models. I went ahead and ordered a clearance s580 yesterday when I found an excellent setup (1.73ghz,512RAM,80gig,CDRW-DVD,gforce 6400) for $1330.
On a side note, I had some issues with the sony card and I would not recommend dealing with them. Sony Customer service was excellent though. They cleared up all my issues, removed some bogus stuff left on my account by the sony card people, and were overall very helpful in getting me my laptop ordered. Never been so pleased with customer service from a computer company. Well except IBM and that was a few years ago.

i definately appreciate the notes about not to worry too much about the wrist rest. I have decided to call the Fujitsu S2000 a contender, although it does not have an option for integrated bluetooth... I just had to convince myself of the reality that I am not going to be rushing into loads of bluetooth products. It would be fantastic to have a blackberry and such, but to make it worthwhile, I would have to pay EXTRA ontop of the phone service in order to get wireless email... sheesh... otherwise it would be worth shelling out the cash to get one of them. As for my idea on the Compaq V2000Z I think I mentioned above. I have ruled it out as an option since I was planning on spending $$ someone mentioned that I should definately opt for a higher quality brand and build.
