Hello, I'm curious if anyone was able to get their s series working with any version of Vista.

I currently have a s360p. I tried putting home, business, and ultimate on there. I could not get the sound, fn keys (display), tv out button, brightness etc to work.

I spoke with Sony Tier 2 techs who told me to install the shared library first, then install the XP Soundmax driver which i did and had no luck on it.

I've searched on the forums also and only found things on the SZ model which i tried following as well. Any help would be appreciated!

Last model of the S series did support vista, go to Sony esupport site and search vgn-S660.

Not sure about the 360's that was a pretty big change i remember from the 3's to the 4's, even a different video card...not sure if it'll work but worth a try.
Tested and working full Vista support for:

    VGN-S460
    VGN-S560
    VGN-S660

I have an S560 with 2GB RAM. I ran vista fine with all the fn functions working properly. Including the power management where the video card will underclock when running under battery.

Also, use the driver version 158.24 to boost the video card performance, instead of the 98.13 from Sony.
My base score the vista is 2.6

I tried to use the drivers that sony offered in the order they posted on the website and couldnt get my function buttons to work at all. it was very annoying. I went back to XP but really want vista back.

Will those steps work even for a S460? cause usually it tells me that the driver is not for my model

Try this thread that you started sometime ago. I installed vista on my system based on that thread as well. It tells you how to do a model bypass trick. But I'd like to add one step to the method. Sometimes you can't edit the model.txt file, and in order to do this, you have to check the "Allow" on the "write" section, then change your model, then do the "Check 'Deny' for only 'Write' under 'Permissions for SYSTEM' panel".
After I do this, there should be an error window when you open the driver, but ignore it, and it will install eventually.
I'm not sure how different the hardware is on the S360, S460, and the S660, but if they're the same, it should work.
My S560 has identical components with the S660, so I used the drivers for S660.

    I have a vgn-s360p.

Despite sony's website listing the s360 as vista capable, I have yet to find sound drivers (ADI SoundMax) that will work with vista.

Has anyone had any luck? Alternatives?

    Thanks Much.

Does anyone with a vgn-s1xx, s2xx, or s3xx use vista? I think these models use the same integrated sound card. Any of you guys using Vista?

    Thank you!

I eventually used the ADI SoundMAX drivers intended for Windows XP. Here's how to install them in Vista:
    1. Download the ADI SoundMAX driver for Windows XP
    2. Run the installer, but don't actually install anything. Just click on "Next" until it extract its files into the temp directory: C:\Users\{Username}\AppData\Local\Temp\drivers
    3. Copy the driver files from the temp directory.
    4. "Cancel" out of the installation.
    5. Go to your Device Manager. Find the multimedia audio device with the exclamation point.
    6. Update the driver for the multimedia audio device and manually point it to the "drivers" directory you copied out earlier.
That should do it. It worked on my VGN-S270. Good luck.

Now if somebody could help me figure out why the flippin' Fn buttons won't work...

UPDATE: I've put together an article detailing my complete installation process.
