    hi all,

I'm considering buying the Sony S 380. Am a bit concerned about the 13.3" screen. Is it too small compared to the FS 15"?

I plan to use the notebook as my primary computer.

    thanks..

the 13.3" screen makes the S series great for travelling, carrying around and using on your lap. But if it's sitting on your desk, I'd say a 15.4" screen notebook is best for being both mobile and a good primary computer, so maybe the FS would fit you better. However, I will say that the S series is a very nice machine and given the choice I'd choose it over the FS. There's a lot of options for 15.4" screen notebooks, so you might look outside of the Sony brand as well.

With IBM taken over by the Chinese, I've ruled out IBM, Fujitsu and HP...Is FS a good system? I havent seen many reviews on FS.

    thanks

To add to the last post, does the 13.3" look small?

    thanks..

I would go for the S series.
The only downside is the fan noise.

I just got the FS in the other day, and I was shocked at how BIG the screen was.

It made me think that the S series screen MIGHT have been big enough. You really ought to go to a store and compare them.

That being said I LOVE my FS series!

I would say the S series. If you spend a little extra (and you can do it later) you can get a port replicator and a remote flat panle up to 20" and have a true desktop system. It is smaller and lighter than the FS (the FS is a very nice machine no doubt also) but the S is simply more versatile with more options and wont be obsolete as soon.

I am also looking into a new Sony, I currently have a Toshiba 17" widescreen that I thought was great for the last 1.3 years and now I will not have another Toshiba. But, the wide screen is great if you are going to be doing large spreedsheets in excel or a access program. I am thinking about the FS or the K series 15.4" widescreen. I like the reviews of the K and the speed along with the looks of the screen. The FS series I am finding is slower than the K series.

Thank-you all for the inputs. Now, I'm really thinking about the S series. Trouble is, do you think theres a big difference between the 15.4 and 13.3? Would 13.3 look too cramped? I was told, its more like a 12". Is this true?

I'm having this system shipped, as there are no stores here which deal with notebooks.

    thanks..

I had a FS550 for a few days, then I switched to the S360. The FS series has a much brighter screen than the S series, but I found it useless as it was too bright!

The 13.3" widescreen is a bit small, but after adjusting the font size in control panel --> display --> settings --> advanced --> general to a slightly bigger size made my day! I won't consider the screen too small anymore, but then again I use my laptop mostly for emails, web, word.

The USB ports aren't located in a good position. Opening those plastic covers to plug my cables in is a hassle. I may consider a port replicator, but it's pretty expensive. It would definitely look better with all the cables hidden at the back.
