These two machines have got to be the most portable and powerful machines in the thin and light category till date . The specs are out and boy are they stunning . But the question is after the complaints about S380's heat and fan noise , will it still be able to even compete against the W3V ?

So what do you all think ? Pour in all your thoughts and opinions.

I was also deciding between the two.

    Asus W3V
    - s-video out
    - swapable media bay (optional 2nd HDD)
    - 3 USB ports
    - longer battery life (from what I've read)
    - quieter fan (from what I've read)
    - better driver suport
    - better materials aluminium + magensium vs. magensium + plastic on Sony.
    - smaller power adapter
    - a little cheaper (at least in europe)

    Sony S3/S4
    - screen is a bit better (from what I've read)
    - docking station option (w/ DVI out)
    - lighter and smaller

I think they are both great machines it just depends on what you need. I went with Asus, mostly because of s-video out and optional 2nd internal HDD that are important to me (I work with video and audio). I haven't received it yet, so I can't say yet how it'll live up to expectations.

    (From Spain//Europe)
I was in the same battle (S3XP vs W3V) and now I have one W3V... dont have both side by side, but I have seen S3 working on shop... (noisy ambient)
    (my comments after the **)

    Asus W3V
    =======
    - s-video out **
    - swapable media bay (optional 2nd HDD)** or just take out DVD unit to less weight and swap empty bay
    - 3 USB ports
    - longer battery life (from what I've read)** 4 hours in email/office settings
    - quieter fan (from what I've read) ** Almost inaudible when surfing & watching TV @ home
    - better driver suport ** updates freq
    - better materials aluminium + magensium vs. magensium + plastic on Sony. ** solid
    - smaller power adapter ** dunno
    - a little cheaper (at least in europe) ** s3xp=2400 € last price known, vs 1800-1900€ W3V

    CONS: added by me
    - heat is a problem as in sony, not to use in laptop, no problem with palmrest or using batteries, but plugged air vent flows too much heat trough right vent.
    - audio volume (speakers or headphones) insufficient.

    Sony S3/S4
    - screen is a bit better (from what I've read) ** I remember sony's and w3v has nothing to envy
    - docking station option (w/ DVI out) ** yep
    - lighter and smaller ** grs?

    /me /vote /W3V

I was reading a PC mag. and they indicated that ASUS does quite a bit for sony vaio, meaning they provide and build the majority of the laptop......I have seen a lots of similarities between ASUS and Sony laptops, in design, nature, and that 'cutting edge look'.
