^It's obviously not a BPS24 since SA uses an internal, fixed battery. Either the FCC docs you are digging through are wrong, or they aren't for the SA (I haven't dug through them).
-
Still I don't want to believe that renewal of E series will include HSPA modem like in these docs. -
I would safely assume that Sony and other gadget manufacturers file FCC material so that it is not easy to interpret. They comply with the relevant legislation but want to ensure they do not leak material that is irrelevant to FCC filing.
Sometimes details get through that shouldnt have but I would view this as a rarity. -
-
One of these days everybody will be peeling off heatsinks/spreaders to check it out
This is the list of sandy bridge B3 stepping that we're looking for... (other than those that want the older B2 hmmmmm...).

Then click on item 110456-00. The items xxxxxM67 or xxxxxM65 are typically the Mobile stuff. -
Re the new z14 does look like it will be coming to Europe as I am in the process of returning my new z13 due to faulty hard drive. Sony now have no 192g configurations in stock and I was told they would issue me a refund and a price match for the same spec on the z14 due in April.
-
On google you can view the SB on the Sony pl website.
Google Translate
There are also some more model numbers that have shown up on the EU website.
More info on the BPS24?

...............
Yes, one model really seems to have been officially revealed at is currently showing on the Sony pl website.
Seria S : VAIO i akcesoria komputerowe : Sony
Touchpad buttons look black and not silver which is what many seemed to want. It looks better than the prototypes.Attached Files:

I really like the design (at least based on the official photos) and the BR-reader, DVD-writer combo. -
-
Rachel, thanks! I was right. It is BPS24 battery... Hope the same on SA?
-
-
Hey guys i am attaching some larger photos, enjoy
I am sure you guys also remember that other 'prototype' from sony, well it is also coming soon, 4 colours maybe 5, don't remember -
Looking very nice
-
Where did you see the white one? I only saw the black model on the Sony pl website. White though, i'm very pleased to see this. I just hope that the SA gets a premium display.
-
Are the SA and SB made in China (like the model in the FCC reports posted by ascariss)? -
The black one is gorgeous.
-
The measurements of the black one the Sony pl website
Głębokość jednostki centralnej (mm)
224,5
Wysokość jednostki centralnej (mm)
23.9
Szerokość jednostki centralnej (mm)
331
Waga z dostarczonym akumulatorem i napędem (kg)
1,75
Less than 1 inch thinness Sony claim. This might be without the lid though. The lid doesn't look thick and i think it could be time to sell my SZ. -
If you guys need some translation from the site, just ask.
the weight is actually with the AC Adapter
and of course WWAN is built in, Qualcomm Gobi 2000 -
Clear.... All this means that the weight of SA with SSD will be similar to the current Z - 1,46 kg.
-
A few words about the general visual perception of the new SB design: to me, it looks like one step towards the standards of Dell's designers who love clear-cut sharp geometric edges
.
-
it states up to 7 hours of battery life with the battery and up to 14 hours of battery life with the larger battery AND smart battery together
body construction is magnesium with aluminum for the palm rest
also fast boot for faster boot up time -
-
-
I was a little surprised to see Gobi 2000 still being used. Also, when is the model on the Sony pl website shipping?
Edited to add:
I've gone back to look at the model on the Sony website and see nothing about shipping. What with the delays with the Intel chipsets i wanted to see if this had any eta on it. If it was shipping quite soon that would be quite surprising. -
The more I look at the pics, the more I like the design.
Compared to the looks of the current Z, I like the cleaner design, the normal palmrest and that the keyboard is not so colorful. -
I`m so surprised that the first glimps of the SB is on the Polish website, looking at the fact that before they offered only the lowest specs of the S series in Poland.
But I`m glad I postponed a new laptop seeing those specs
Too bad no higher screen resolution. Since they call this the Flagship I guess only the SA will have 1600 x 900 -
On the other hand, I'm not too sure about the silver finish on the palm-rest of the white model.... It seems to me like the silver paint will come out quickly with use....
-
-
I'm not sure I can get used to the big frame around the display
-
It is unknown if the SA will be offered in poland, I do not have that information sadly. -
So what are the promised battery lives on the SA without the huge, thick battery?
And also... is the Sandy Bridge SATA defect going to effect these at all? -
Other than that, this new design sure looks very nice/pretty. -
-
^Way incorrect.
1 Port for optical, 1 for HDD...what do you suppose the ESATA is wired to?
Not to mention the SA is raid...so it uses more that the 2 "good" ports even before ESATA is factored in.
There are other issues with SA, it's going to be a while before it's available. I'm not sure what the plan is for SB. -
-
-
-
Beaups, is the Z going to have better graphics than the Intel GMA HD, so still a blend of portability/power or will it just focus on portability/battery life?
-
-
Maybe it is just me, but it seems like nowadays, computer (& other industry) manufacturers cannot create anything truly reliable....First Nvidia, now Intel,.......
I thought technology is so advanced (& engineers are smarter than they used to be) these days that these kinds of errors shouldn't be happening "that often".....
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
The thing is that while nvidia went into denial, intel made the right approach, and the OEMs following intel's order did the good course of action.
While I do find that the tic toc process do maintain a good flow of products and releases, and as such maintain a high level of payment per development, I also find that its a bit too much. however people are much into tech these days, and as such driving consumers whishes by introducing new merchandise every year is a form to maintain expectations, and if those desires are met by the said product we are into a profitable and good cicle nonetheless.
The real best thing about all this is "recall" that intel issued, and with the release of the defective boards for use in system that dont use them, is going to give us some SB goodness soon, maybe not what we wanted, but with this we are going to see releases rather in spring than in summer. The lenovos are going to be released in spring, asus, hp, acer as well. Since that the market share for Sony is lesser than those we are going to see more delays, due to RMA of the defective boards and due to the stocking process.
The stocking process is one that I think is going to take longer, since that is why the chips were introduced in H2 of last year to the companies so that they could have inventory and the necessary modifications ready.
PS: I didnt knew how I missed tipying in a good keyboard since I got another laptop, had to return for my lenovo due to PSU issues with the current one:cry: -

The SA/sb design on the polish website does look tempting would defiantly want the higher res screen having lived with the z for a couple of days but the hard drive fault and also the quite noticeable processor whine with the i7 does concern me about Sony. I'm going to get a cheap lenovo netbook and wait till new machines are out and have been user tested a bit.
-
-
Is the SA/SB going to be a glossy display or will they offer(option or standard) an anti-coated displays, like the Z and the TT o of?
-
Wow! Photos of the SA/SB look great. I'm impress. YouTube videos did no justice for me. I'm actually considering this (after I was able to return a recently purchased Z12). What I miss the most was my SZ - screen size over the 13.1 VPC-Z and full size keys. This SA/SB takes me back there. The black looks awesome - I like the matte-ness of it. Hopefully, it will resist finger prints. The only thing is the hinge. Is the hinge flushed with the notebook when closed? It appears pertruded or obstructive, but not in a bad way. Also, the keys appears to be the size of the current Z. Definitely, has X-Series DNA - not to shabby Sony.
The "WEB" Key is awesome. Tried it out at Best Buy with the F-Series and takes you to the web instantaneously.
One other concern is that J & R has in their site two configurations for the SA - no specs. available though, starting at $2499.99. Question is the starting price of the SB? -
-
Except that Sony usually prices things the same regardless of currency. Also IMO they would be insane to charge 1499 for the base SB
