    So....

Engadget got rid of mentioning the SA, there are no pictures available... what does this mean?

Didn't the S in other countries actually come with a nvidia gpu options? I was kind of hoping to upgrade my TT to a newer 13.1in laptop from Sony(with better battery life of course), but I guess I will have to see what other offer in 13.1. I personally found many 13.3in machines to bit a bit large for my taste, while the 13.1in Sony was pretty much the prefect size.

The S is not the SA....according to what people are saying. The S is a lower model.

So the S series really does live on. I think it's a little pointless for Sony to have two 13.3 models especially if the starting price of the SA will be $1,200 as Engadet first claimed it to be.

Me too. Maybe that's why they took all the stuff down. Maybe there actually is a Z and there was just a mixup or something?

    I don't know.

Will the nvdia model of the S be using optimus or graphic switching, because I know it came with an nvidia gpu in other countries but dont know if it was switchable?

It's just that the only source we have is some Japanese report out of PC Magazine. Why is there no one else reporting this? Also the Japanese report keeps referring to the media having seen the SA....yet no other media outlet has it. Could be a total hoax.

I was waiting for the ''new'' Z to come up at CES tonight and I was religiously watching this thread to find more infos ... Why the secrecy and misleading infos and removing infos from the web ? Some website journalist earlier (Engadget ?) had handle the new SA ? No booth display and pictures yet ? Wow talking about vaporware ... Considering that the Z doesn't have a matte screen[*], that's an awfully difficult question to answer.

[*]: It's glossy with an anti-reflective coating, in effect making it a semigloss screen. You can still easily read a text reflected off the screen at an angle, so it's in no way matte, like, say, many Lenovos are.

I am familiar with the screen my TT has the same(or similar screen).

On that note, has anyone seen the screen on the S? How does it compare to the TT, Z(any gen) or F(models I am familiar with)?

    Engadget

However, the story has been removed and the link just takes you to the Engadget home page.

I'm still holding out hope the SA is not replacing the Z, at least what Engadget claims (or had claimed, since the article is now gone). It feels...underwhelming and not worth succeeding the current Z. :(

What's wrong with the SA? It has all high end specs like the Z not to mention that the title of Engadget's article was "Sony VAIO SA with Intel's latest processors primed to take over the VAIO Z"

I'm gonna pass this so-called successor. Indeed, it's more like the transition from the TT to the X; the SA will be considerably different to the Z that it's supposedly / reportedly succeeding.

[The thing that set the Z apart was the hybrid GPU (and its small, near ultra-portable form factor despite its high-end specs). One of the first HIGH-END model to do so. Yet, the so-called successor lacks the functionality in question.]* And it's grown bigger (ok, maybe to allow for better graphics implementation). Though not really a successor for the Z if you ask me. I stand by my claim that this is intended to replace the older SR (or the slightly newer S) lappies.

That all said, you have to start wondering as to whether Sony is bringing into play their 'two-builds' scheme (where they confirmed the lower-end VAIO lineup production would be outsourced to 3rd party companies). Something on the magnitude of the late TZ, or the VPC-Z might be made in Japan, but considering the SA is looking more like a SR / S replacement (both made in China)... Curious...

...now... Waiting to see how the Japanese media portrays the VAIOs at CES. Might even start lingering around Sony VAIO JP again...

    edit: ignore *

Where did you read that it doesn't support hybrid GPU tech ?

It does have a dynamic hybrid graphics switching tech just like the Z. And mostly its the same as Z with sandybridge and ATI graphics

WHERE ARE THE photos/articles/press link? All of this speculation is useless jargon.

I thought yall said sony was going to announce something at 5 or 6 pst.

hmm, also appears an engadget link has been redacted.

I'm wondering how this laptop looks like, because the ones of the links are Y and S series notebooks. The new F serie I don't like at all, not the style of design I like.

I realize the current Vaio S uses GT 310M. Since the next S will use ATI/AMD HD6630 Graphics, does that mean the Vaio Z replacement will have something faster than the HD6630?

the vaio S uses integrated, not discrete graphics. the Z replacement, the fabled SA, uses the 6630
