    Thanks for posting the link
I do like the look of the gold SA.
It really does appear not be 3.2lbs. I wonder what happened there, may be the chassis revision led to it being made heavier or may be 3.2lbs was an incorrect figure. Still, i still more can manage 3.65lbs.
It appears to be may be a tiny bit thinner.

    SB
    •Dimensions (Approx.) : 13.04" (W) x 0.95" (H) x 8.84" (D)

    SA
    : 13.04" (W) x 0.92" - 1.27" (H) x 8.84" (D)

1.27 does not look thinner than 0.95 to me, or do I get it wrong ? ;)

That's actually the height when the battery sheet is attached. The SA is thinner with its height at 0.92

It could be that those SB dimensions doesn't include the most thickest part. Or may be the 1.27" is the thickness with the sheet battery.
I know with my TT Sony listed it as being 0.925 and it was at the most thinnest part but it's not at the rear of the notebook.

    On another SA model it is just listed as •Dimensions (Approx.) : 13.04" (W) x 0.92" (H) x 8.84" (D)
    13.3" Core i7 Laptop | VAIO S Series Laptop | VPCSA2BGX/BI | Sony USA

This SB is listed here as
    13.04" (W) x 0.95" (H) x 8.84" (D)
    13.3" Thin Light Laptop | VAIO® S Series Laptop | VPCSB11FX/W | Sony USA

So as i thought before the SA does look like it will be marginally thinner.

One can already order it !
No comment on the screen quality though...

Does someone know if it's generally long before a new model reaches europe (france) ? Thanks

Looks like Sony charges you $150 premium for SA's lighter, thinner chasis and 1600x900 over SB.

Looks like the SA is now avaliable on the Canadian CTO also!

    Sony Canada

Seems like the prices are the same as the test run.

Yes the Pro 13" does have a 1280x800 screen, the Air 13" has a larger 1440x900 screen, which is what I belive that you are thinking about. The Pro 15" has a larger 16??x10?? screen.

Whoops I'm sorry. Yeah you're right. I actually thought the 13inch had a 1366 x 768 resolution. Yeah all apple notebooks have 16:10 aspect ratios apart from the 11inch macbook air. I'm guessing eventually apple will transfer them all to 16:9 as all of their desktop displays are already 16:9 (imacs, cinema displays).

dannisan is my other screen name by the way, so i'm the same person.

Does the UK keyboard layout have the double sized Enter key? I'd assume the US site is far cheaper to buy from so would probably do that... but I love the big enter key so much :/

I'm very close to ordering an SA with:

    i7 2620m
    Windows 7 Professional
    512 GB SSD
    4 Gig DDR3 + 1 open slot

Is the 256x2 radio 0 SSD a good way to go or is there a way to add memory on your own more economically if you just purchase a single 128 gig drive?

Is there any disadvantage to adding an extra 4 gigs of RAM on my own later instead of buying 8 gigs DDR3 from Sony?

    Thanks!

I think the Sony SSD have their own special connector so quite complicated to upgrade/change later on.

I don't see any disadvantage of adding extra 4g by yourself, in fact, it's much more cheaper.

I'm pretty happy with the specs of SA to be honest. But I've seen different weights for it, either ~1.6kg or ~1.4kg. I hope the latter...

You like wasting money? you should buy an HDD and buy an Intel/Crucial/OCZ/Corsair SSD, which will all be better in both performance and reliability.

As for RAM memory even more so since you'll just have to insert the memory in place and you'll have no more instalation steps or problems and still get a half-price BETTER memory.

So again, if you don't like to waste money buy those from anywhere but Sony.

Nope. And if you do that (which is possible by some work arounds) you won't have warranty in Europe. To use the warranty you'll have to give the laptop to VAIO crew IN Canada. so just wait a week or 2 mate...

Can I order the US version and ship it to Canada? I don't prefer the multilinugal keyborads. The Sony store said that I can call in an order one with an English keyboard, but I'm not too sure about that.

Also could anyone expand on how the Sony SSD's are "wasting money"? I went to newegg per the earlier recommendations and saw that most 256 gig SSD's were being sold for about $500. The 256 gig SSD SA is about $600 more than the 500 gig HDD model....so even taking into account about $50 for the HDD they're charging $650 for a 256 gig SSD. That doesn't seem too unreasonable unless I'm really overestimating the quality of the SSD's sony installs in these laptops.

sony rep - "the SB has a Sony Vaio Display and the SA will have the Display Plus. The SA screen will be better."

i was pretty sure the SB had a display plus so i don't know where the reps get there information. who knows, wish they had some SA display models to look at at the stores

Hmmm, the current VAIO SB is called VAIO Display Plus, the only change I can see from the older VAIO S is the matte screen, so that would be the Plus, but I really hope the 1600x900 pixel screen of the VAIO SA is the same excellent VAIO Premium from the Z series, we'll know soon enough.

Can't wait to read some of your owner's impressions when they start to ship. The I5-2520M/HD 500 7200 rpm unit is priced nicely. Swap the HD to the OD space and put a 120GB SSD in there and you're in business. Hopefully, the display will have good contrast and color saturation.

My wife has been looking for a new laptop for work. She likes the 13" MBP but I've been holding her off until this unit was released.

In my humble opininon, the worse thing is that there is no option for a fingerprint reader &/or built-in TPM module. Or are these included as standard?

..im waiting on some reviews on this SA....Lenovo Edge e420s kinda failed me with no 6630m in USA yet..nor a upgraded screen resolution (1366x786 only)....Dell is coming out with a 14" version of the 15z...but im sure it will have heat issues as well other dell related problems (ie medicore build quality). Right now this Sony Vaio SA looks like the King of any laptop in the 13-14" inch range...infact I don't think there is a thin/light 14" inch laptop with specs better than this 13.3" Vaio SA....am I wrong?

I wish the SA had a 14" inch version...

I know the fingerprint reader is standard, though I don't know if it's on all configurations.

Shame that it doesn't have a slot-load DVD drive. I hate the slide-out flimsy mess that adorns most laptops. Ugh. Not to mention it's ugly as heck on an otherwise beautiful machine.

Does anyone know if battery life is improved at all for the SA?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but could anyone tell me what exactly Sony means by "hybrid memory" on the SA CTO page? Is it just a fancy word for the fact that 4GB of memory is soldered on, and can't be removed?

just to add, sony france clearly states vaio display plus for the SB, whereas sony us/ca don't (if I'm not wrong). And neither do they for the SA !

Also, the SB does come with fingerprint reader here..

Would this SSD work with the Vaio SA? According to the CTO page it uses two SSDs, but will it work okay with just this one? It ends up saving me about $400 USD.

it's amazing the amount of unnecessary questions of ONE day after the SA has started being sold. amazing. i hope nobody answers some of your questions so that you can perhaps grow as a human being.

and it's because people like this that this thread is 255 pages long instead of 50.

Don't read the thread if you don't want to see questions about the SA. I'm sorry if we've disturbed your delicate psyche by asking questions about the product in the title of the thread. Who elected you the decider of what questions are necessary and unnecessary? Very rude comment.

The SB has 3.0, I can't fathom that the SA wouldn't. I believe all the connections will the same as the SB.

Seeing questions about the SA doesn't bother me at all, in fact, they'd do quite the opposite. But questions like "does this run windows 7?" or " does it come with the cable that let's you recharge the laptop?" are something i'd call unnecessary, are they not? some questions are like that.

i've read through the 255 pages, have you read more than 5? how many of these questions would be answered by reading the last page? how about the last 2 pages? 5? how about reading the info on the sony site about the product? is that really so hard?
also have you heard of this thing called a search engine? do you now how to search? is that really that hard?

sure i may have been rude, but have you considered how rude "these" people or you are? because you are being quite rude fyi.
it's not a delicate pshyche, it's some people's lack of inteligence/patience or excessive lazyness that is disturbing.

it's wrong to have a 50 pages information spread and repeated over 255 so that people with average human IQ won't really have the time, if not something else, to read the full thread and either gather less knowledge or just be forced to ask something, again...
