    Hello everyone,

I currently own a VPCSB190S that I purchased about 16 months ago. A few months ago, I noticed that despite the battery icon saying "Plugged in, charging", it was not charging. The charging animation also stops. I usually keep my laptop plugged in so I didn't notice this problem until I had disconnected it and it did not charge further when reconnected it.

It seemed the S series has had its fair share of battery charging issues. I have installed the newest BIOS (R2087H4) and also disabled ISB Utility (on the instruction of a Sony representative).

I do own a sheet battery and have used the provided charger for that. It is functional, so my AC adapter should not be the problem.

I have not turned on VAIO Battery Care, but have tried turning it on and off and it has made no difference. VAIO Diagnostics say my battery is in excellent health.

When I disconnect and reconnect my adapter, the battery appears to charge for about 30 seconds. During this time, the battery charging animation shows charging. Using CPUID Hardware Monitor, the current capacity of my battery does increase during this time, so I suspect the physical battery may not be the problem. The Designed Capacity is listed as 52170 mWh while Full Charge Capacity is 50340 mWh.

    I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hi limi44.

I have a Sony Vaio VPCSB11FX, and i have exactly the same problem as you described.

I now have my battery at 74%, the letter saying (plugged in, charging) but it could be at the same 74% for hours without change, if i disconnect the charger and connect it again, the animation returns and charge the battery only for about 30 seconds.

I tried to update the bios, the sony software updates, remove the battery a lot of times without results.

I will keep doing test to try to locate the problems, please let me know if you have any news, i will do the same if i find something.

    Best regards.

We all have the same problem.

It charged to 100% (new), 83% (2 years of use) and up to 63% now (2 years 1/2 of use).

I think there is a problem with these batteries and vaio bios which does not work well.

Make a petition resolve this problem of battery and for reactivate the SATA-3 with a new official sony bios.

    Best regards.

try it with hardware monitor see your battery use level.

sony included some software to detect original battery, i dont think it is a problem, but try uninstall it.

I got the same problem with my vaio i brought last year (svs)..

    So far, I noticed that:
    - When you first plug it in, it would start charging and the battery icon would show it going from 0/20%/50%/100%/0%... and repeat.
    - After 30sec or so, it stops showing that it's charging. when you hover over it, it says it's plugged in and charging, but the icon doesn't move.
    - I would leave the laptop plugged in all night, and the next day it would still be at 10%.
    - If i constantly unplug the adapter when it shows it stops charging, then plug it back in, it would charge and I can get it up to 90%. However, this is dumb cause I don't have time to unplug it every 30sec.
    - I did read on google that it could have something to do with the "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery".. but since it's not charging overnight, it could be a hardware issue.

Anyways, gotta find time to drop off my laptop at the service depot before warranty expires.

I've messed with the battery care settings a lot and had no luck with it. I also uninstalled the "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" and reinstalled and had no luck either. If I take it to a Sony Store(out of warranty), will they be able to do anything?

Im not sure if theres been a fix but I have had a VAIO sa3 for about 21 months now and just 2 weeks ago I was having the exact problem described in the original post. I also have a sheet battery. I tried removing the battery and pressing the power button a couple times. Then I left it for a few hours and then put the battery in, plugged in the power adapter, and turned it on but the problem persisted and the charge just wouldn't increase. I have battery care enabled and set at 80%, but it was showing a charge much below that. It was late at night so I was just like whatever and left my laptop plugged in overnight. When I opened the next morning both my batteries were at 80%!(I left the sheet battery attached to the laptop). From then on both batteries discharged and charged normally without a hitch.

However I had the issue come back again last night where it was just stuck at 67%. So I just did the same as before and left it plugged in overnight. A little oddly this time both batteries were at 100% the next morning despite battery care still being set to 80%. But yeah the battery seems to be behaving normally again.

I should mention that each time I try to take out the battery and press the power button, it doesn't remedy the problem. Only after I've left it plugged in overnight does it seem to fix the issue. Although I haven't just tried to leave it plugged in overnight to see if that alone fixes the issue.

In any case the reoccurrence of this issue is a little worrying to me.

I have a Vaio VPCSB11FX with similar symptoms. Recently the original battery seemed to fail (orange battery light flashing ~3Hz, would not power on unless battery was removed). I thought ok maybe this is to be expected after 2 to 3 years.

I installed a replacement battery from Sony (not aftermarket). Similar symptoms. I disabled the ISB Utility using msconfig. The new battery is detected and reports as Plugged In Not Charging 0% available. Orange battery indicator light flashing ~3Hz.

Any suggestions beyond what is already on this thread?

    Thank you!

    I forgot to mention...

I ran the BIOS update (ISBSYS-00269046-1040) it says my BIOS is already up to date.

I also tried pressing the battery off button under various conditions as described in the manual.

The new battery appears to work and may actually be charging; it seems to power the laptop with the charging adapter removed. However, I have no idea how much charge is remaining; in fact, whether it is charging at all. And to start up or wake while the power adapter is connected and orange battery indicator light flashing, I need to press the battery off button first otherwise it will ignore the power on button.

There must be some way to recover from this condition!

    Thank you!

Have you tried a clean install of Windows without any of the Vaio software? I am asking this because when I clean installed Win 8.1 without the Vaio Control center, and Vaio care it was telling me that I had a fake battery installed even though it was the original battery and would shutdown my system. Also make sure you have the latest version of Vaio care and Vaio control center installed as well as Sony Shared Libraries.

    Hello,
Does anyone have the fix for battery "plugged in, not charging" problem. I have a sony SVS151190X. The battery light kept blinking fast. I have tried several methods posted on the internet without success.
    1. Plugged in a known good battery ==> does not help.
    2. Took off battery, unplug cord, press an hold start button for 1 min, and left the laptop overnight, then reinstatll the battery ==> does not help
    3. press the RAM for 30 seconds ==> does not help
    4. remove the Microsoft ACPI driver and reinstall ==> does not help
    5. press the battery reset button on the back of the laptop ==> does not help
    6. IBS utility turned off ==> does not help.
    7. Factory restore windows 7 and software ==> does not help.
    8. Clean install either windows 7 or windows 8 ==> does not help.
    9. Tried BIOS either EFI or legacy ==> does not help.
10 Disabled TPM ==> does not help
    11. Either windows or Ubuntu ==> does not help
