    heya,

    so ive been trying to get 64 bit vista work with my SR and lack of sony drivers was preventing me

    so i tried for one more time and this time i let vista do everything its own way and updated everything from windows site and i only installed the drivers vista couldnt find

    and at last ive got the things i wanted to work

    lets start with what does NOT work :

    On-Screen event displays : like when you increase the volume it doesnt show that bar on your screen anymore but the function keys for volume/mute do work fine

    UPDATE: install Microsoft IntelliType software and you get a really nice/fancy display when you change volume, or hit capslock and etc. its very nice!

    Fn + brightness keys : Yes this does not work however i made a shortcut to Windows Mobility Center on my desktop and i can just click on that and adjust my brightness

    Mode switch/buttons : The mode switch/buttons do not work and I would never use them

    Touchstrip : The drivers are there and windows identifies the device however you need the software itself, version 5.8.2 i believe and UPEK wants $15 for that. And again I don't need this

    Update : found version 5.8.2 on upek website, and it works great in 64bit

    -----------

    But I think ive got other things work just fine, last time i installed 64bit even the PageUp and PageDown keys didnt work but this time they do. I can increase/decrease volume just fine I just dont see that bar on screen i can live with that.

    Hooked up the laptop to my monitor and it worked flawlessly, thanks to windows again. This was the biggest issue for which must have had to work in order for me to keep 64bit

    I guess that is all, hope other people with SR trying to install 64bit windows find it helpful and it is doable if you dont mind the sacrifices

    I think to get the function keys working, you need one of the Sony utilities. I forgot which one, though.

    I'm not saying these work, but just a suggestion:

    Sony® Firmware Extension Parser 64bit:

    ftp://download.sony.com/US/pc/SODSNC-14376700-64.EXE

    Sony® Shared Library 64bit:

    ftp://download.sony.com/US/pc/SOASSL-15348400-64.EXE

    Sony® Notebook Utilities 64bit, contains:

    * Battery Checker
    * VAIO® Control Center
    * Setting Utility Series
    * VAIO Event Service
    * VAIO Launcher

    ftp://download.sony.com/US/pc/SOAOTH-43700000-64.EXE

    For the Sony Notebook Utilities, I'd use Universal Extractor:

    http://legroom.net/software/uniextract

    and extract the individual setup files and see if it would work on the SR. They weren't meant for the SR, so you probably have to extract them out and install manually.

    And if its anything like the Z series, you probably want to follow this order:

    1. Vista 64bit Service Pack 1
    2. Sony Shared Library
    3. Setting Utility Series
    4. Sony VAIO Event Service
    5. VAIO Control Center
    6. VAIO Launcher

    again...just a suggestion, I don't own a SR

    This is kind of old but I did what MegaMan suggested and downloaded Universal Extractor and installed each one separately. My ultimate 64 now has almost every function that came with HP 32. I say almost only because I haven't found anything else that's missing...yet. All keys/functions/etc are working, brightness and all. This helped me SO much. Thanks

    Sony esupport site has drivers for the 64 bit vista for the SR!
    http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=VGNSR290&SelectOS=34
    To fix your FN key problems follow the following steps, I had the same issue:
    1. In your BIOS (F2 at Sony screen) go to the exit tab, reset to default values, save and exit.
    2. Reinstall Sony Notebook Utilities (assuming u already installed Sony Shared Library)
    3. Reinstall your Audio driver.

    Your FN keys (including brightness and on screen display) should work perfectly. BTW, these steps worked after my clean install of Business 32-Bit. Dont see a reason why it shouldnt work for 64 bit. Good luck!

    I am using VGN-SR13GN and changed OS to Vista 64 quite recently.
    Tried as MegaMan X mentioned and now work most of the keys and VAIO Control Centre.

    But still one unknown device with the name Base System Device.

    Anyone gets any clue what might it be?

    Thanks!

    I got it all except full mode buttons and some features in VCC.
    It works like dream with 64 bit now.

    Anyone wants any 64 bit driver for VGN-SR13GN, just let me know.

    Hi All,

    I have a european version of Sony SR (VGN-SR39VN). And installed Vista Ultimate x64. Everything works fine except:
    - short cut keys
    - memory card reader

    I have tried to install the links that MegaMan X has provided. But it seems there is a different between the USA version and the EU version. The EU support does not provide any 64bit drivers / software.

    Can anyone help me...?

    Thanks...

    Hi Dear,
    I'm using a VGN-SR13GN-B and I changed my O.S to Vista x64. I need some drivers for it like Fingerprint, Network, Ethernet and etc.
    I went to http://www.sony-asia.com but I couldn't find any x64 drivers.
    Do you know any way to download these drivers?
    Regards, :)

    Hello everyone !
    Thank you very much for your info and support !
    I am new owner of Sony Vaio SR31M/S (europe) (vista home premium 32-bit natively installed).
    Unfortunately i am dissapointed from sony's support for drivers...It is rather stupid...
    Anyway,

    I installed 64-bit vista business in order to gain the 4th gigabyte of ram.
    I used unofficial drivers from
    http://www.vaio-link.com/os/vista/64bit/

    I managed to setup every device + fn button functionalities

    But what about vaio utility software (utilities, switch button mode, hdd protection, battery checker etc ) ?

    Is there any recommendation of where to find 64-bit drivers about these ?

    Unfortunately MegaMan X's drivers for SFEP+Shared library+utilities are not functional due to model incompatibility.

    Site provided by totono does not contain my laptop model and if i try SR39 model which is closer to mine and download the setup files, none of them can start installation. (they just do not respond to double click).

    Please help to find any solution for these drivers !
    Thank you very much in advance!

    Hey Rascal, I own the VGN-SR13GN too. May I have the 64bit drivers too?
