I was wondering if anyone could post the average battery life difference between the integrated and the ATI 3470 in the Sony SR with the 6 cell battery? Im trying to decide whether or not i should get the upgrade.
-
I was debating on the exact same thing for the past 3 days..and after a lot of research/online user reviews, seems that the Intel GMA (integrated) option will provide you around 5-5.5 hours on standard battery, while Discrete ATI would give about 3.5 hours..
I don't game much..just watch DVD movies sometimes, and don't even think I'll use the HDMI output with the ATI..for my powerpoints, VGA is good..
As for HD video..the Intel one as far as I've heard is compatible with full 1080p video which you've downloaded..
only if you're a gamer, you'll probably need the ATI..
if you're in for batt life..and no hdmi..then intel all the way !
hope it helps.

So about a 1 1/2 to 2 hour difference? Thats a big difference! I was going to get the upgrade just incase i decide to play a game on it. Its only 50 bucks! But having that big of a battery difference won't be that good for when i go to college. Do you think Sony will come out with software in the future that could possibly downclock the card while not in use for better battery life? Kind of like the Asus's N series that just came out.
-
you might want to know the difference in processor on those as well. p series cpu lasts 5-6 hours while t series last 3.5-4. im not sure if this is a coincidence or not. can we get a fair comparison here?
-
The t-series processors (TDP of 35W) use more energy than the p-series (TDP of 25W). As such, the p-series should result in better battery life. My guess as to how much is the standard YMMV disclaimer (I've read some reports of up to 25% more battery life).

wat about buying a vaio sr 26 gn laptop performance ,graphics ,durability most imp is battery life in it suggest me the good one
-
Does it have Intel X4500 or Ati3470?

Thanks guys! Decided to get the integrated graphics! The guy on the phone said it would be only 30 minutes difference between integrated and discrete but luckily i knew this was not correct. Ended up being $911.00 with p8600 upgrade after coupon and campus discount.
-
good price..i configured mine with integrated, and 320gigs/P8400/2GB..total came to 957 or so..overall..good deal with instant+coupon+campus disounts !..now just have to wait for them to ship soon !..

Yeah waiting for it to ship has been hard! You'd be a fool to pass up this deal though! Mine says estimated ship date of 11/19 and its in the "processing" stage, whatever that means. I have never bought something from sonystyle before so i dont know what all the different stages are.

On the italian sony site they declare that the SR19XN model (integrated graphics, 160GB HD and 3GB ram) has a battery life of 300 minutes, the SR21M (dedicated graphics ATI HD3470) about 240 minutes, whereas the SR29XN (integrated graphics, 250GB HD and 4GB ram) only 220 minutes! Why this strange difference? I suppose that SR29XN will have a battery life quite similar to the SR19XN, what do you think about this? (sorry for my english...i hope you will understand what I have written) Thanks, bye bye!

Do not believe battery life quotes by Sony. Instead search on this forum to see what battery life members get.
Roughly: integrated 5 hours max. dedicated 3,5 hours. -
ah ok, this is what i want to hear! thanks! bye
