I need help. If some one could give me a list of what i should and shouldn't remove that would be great. There is a list of Sony programs on my programs list but i have no idea whats safe and whats not safe to remove. Somebody help please!
-
why don't you make a list of prgrams and maybe somebody will tell you what you might want to keep and what you might want to get rid of
-
I am keeping most of the software
I got rid of the 60 days trialware:
McAfee
Microsoft Office -
Like TonyTheTiger said, make a list.
ufogeeks two mentions are two part.
You may want to get rid of Vaio Media (if you have it) too, unless you use it. -
I am not sure if the Vaio software will be useful later so i decided not to uninstall them. What I have done though is to set all those Vaio services to Manual (except for Vaio Event which I left as Automatic).
Photoshop Elements and Premiere I am keeping simply because they are full versions and the price of the laptop already include them -
i hate how the US's SR doesnt come with photoshop elements and premiere elements

Let me just say why i am doing this. My harddrive shows that there is 76.6 GB of free space on a 160GB harddrive. I was thinking there is no way that i used that much space after having this computer for 1 month, so i thougt the bloatware was adding to it so i thought hey i'd try t remove most of it. I just downloaded Treesize, and it says that only 46GB is being used, not more han 80GB. Is there something wrong with windows reading my harddrive? can someone explain this?

Vaio Content Folder Setting (i took it off, i dont know whats this for)
Vaio Content Metadata intelli analyzing manager (i took this off, probably something for the sony media plus software)
Vaio Content metadata manager setting (i took this off, sony media plus stuff)
Vaio content metadata xml interface lib (i took this off, sony media plus stuff)
vaio control center (keep this)
vaio data restore tool (i took this off, but you might wanna keep it)
vaio dvd menu data basic (i took it off, probably another media plus thing)
vaio entertaiment platform (i took it off, useless if you dont use sony media plus)
vaio event service (keep this this is the software for the Fn keys and stuff)
vaio help and support (i took it off)
vaio media plus (trash IMHO)
vaio my memory center (i took it off.. useless)
vaio oobe and welcome center x2 (i took it off)
vaio orig function setting (i took it off, but might be useful)
vaio power management (i kept this, this is useful, it lets u power on and off different components on your laptop to save battery)
vaio presentation support (i took it off)
vaio startup assistant (i took it off)
vaio wireless wizard (i took it off)
and just a heads up, you didn't list these out but keep
-setting utility series
-sony video shared library
these two are essential for some settings unique to the laptop
but ultimately it's up to you. Keep what you want, remove everything else. -
But wow, a 160gb hdd with only 76.6gb left??
Did you just get your SR?
i would recommend doing a clean install.. 80GB is way too much..I only had about 20GB of stuff on my laptop when I just got it -
ya something seems really messed up. I know the partition fr the recovery drive is there because the C: drive reads as having 140GB available. But i don't understand where my free space has gone.
-
80GB is awfully high for a new laptop.. -
ok it was the shadow copies that were stealing over 20 gb of space. My question now is...should the C: drive only have 140 GB in a 160GB HD?
-
yeah that's normal cause harddrive companies use decimal numeral system to count their harddrives space but windows uses binary numeral system
1GB = 1000MB in decimal system
1GB = 1024MB in binary system
right click on the hard drive, and look at Capacity
it should show close to 160GB (probably not though, since you have a recovery hidden partition on your hard drive, which is about 10GB) -
Well tony, thank you for all your help it was much appreciated.

I have aproximatley 80 gigs of 160 remaining as well. I cleared the sonybloatware, but i have office 2007, itunes + 18 gigs of music, spore installed(via direct2drive so whole cd image), 2-3 gigs of photos, etc.
You should have close to 120 gigs remaining or more if you havent installed much on the vaio. Dont forget that you may have made a backup of your HD without noticing via windowsliveone or something.... -
