I went to SONY center today to check the SR and Z laptops and while I was standing at the SR model I got the impression something wasn't alright with the colors, so I opened a white window on the SR and the Z and put them beside each other, only to notice that the SR got a clear greenish tint to it.
Once I knew it's there it's clear how bad the color quality of the screen is, everything has this greenish tint to it and the gamma/crispiness is way below any of the other laptops on display, which were all current Sony models. Now I'd like to know if all SR screens have this greenish tint, I haven't really read anything about it on this forum so I'm guessing maybe all screens don't have the problem.
Did any SR owner around here notice this problem if you place the laptop beside any other monitor?
I'm considering getting either the SR or the Z, but the Z is quite out of my league when it comes to pricing and I don't trust nVidia GPUs.

Either that display model's screen is damaged or someone messed with gamma settings within ATI's control panel.
However, when the screen is off, there is a green tint to it, but it will not affect color quality afaik. My screen displays beautiful whites, no green tint at all. -
Sounds reassuring, thanks for the reply.
Did you compare it to another laptop/screen that you own? I didn't start to think about it until I had actually switched back and forth between the SR and the Z a few times. -
my screen also reproduces color brilliantly, significantly better than my girlfriends macbook, my moms macbook pro, my old thinkpads, or my friends thinkpad T61.

The screen color is green, you can pretty much notice it using it outside or when the screen isn't displaying anything (off). Mine displays pretty white whites.... I don't see really any kind of green tint, I think I changed the settings so it has a slighter reddish tint, but it's very faint.
If that SR on display had the ATI card, then someone was probably playing around with the screen settings. xD
If it's Intel Graphics though, then maybe that screen did have a green tint... I'm not sure. Not all screens are made the same. @_@ -
Sorry for bumping this thread back up, but I bought an SR just yesterday and I'm not all to happy about the screen. First, when browsing this site for instance, the color of the green titles to the right and the green links to the left, change into some yellow thing when I'm scrolling up or down (load the site, then just push the arrow down/up button and watch the site pass by). It's not that easy to see, but I'm concerned that in movies or games I'll have more of these kinds of problems. Secondly, after I stumbled on this thread I decided to change the background color of my desktop into flashy white. However, when I look at it, I simply cannot deny there's a green tint added to it, especially when I compare it with my desktop screen and my old Acer laptop. Could somebody with an SR do the same test and let me know what the result is? My settings in the ATI control panel are all set to the default values, I just downgraded to XP and installed some drivers. Really looking forward to a reply of someone!

I haven't changed any settings, but by default my display is more yellowish and dimmer than other LED laptops, but with better vertical viewing angles.

Mine is with Intel gfx, i don't see the greenish tint. -
uh... i don't see the greenish tint, either, when/where did all of you order your SR's?
Mine was from sonystyle, it was a CTO, and i recieved it around 3 weeks ago.
Is it possible that there was a defective display on some older model? -
the power button is green, perhaps there is leakage from that button?

Does anyone have any more updated information about this problem? My new SR definitely has a greenish or yellowy tint. Certain grays turn into beige, medium greens into lime green, tan into yellow, etc.
It's very bothersome and I cannot correct it with calibration, if I make the gray gray, for example, the blacks become blue.
