Wow. So Sony is still going to market overpriced junk?

Why are manufacturers still making laptops with *only* VGA graphics ports?

You could have really kept this to yourself.
I'm sure other users have there thoughts on Sony's notebooks.
In my experience they were great, even if not budget.
And actually, Sony is marketing towards the average consumer, personally I don't know one person who cares if it's HDMI or VGA.

But, this is 2008 and the standard now is DVI at the very least for monitors and it's HDMI for TVs etc. VGA is fine to include but to be the only video output on a brand new laptop selling for over 1K? C'mon...

Personally I've never seen people(average consumer) care about external monitors.
    Hell, even I don't.

I am also disappointed in this. I wish for more notebooks to at least have HDMI out, to view on a HDTV and you can always get an HDMI to DVI converter for computer monitors. :(

I'm sure there are converters for VGA to HDMI and DVI but I would like HDMI out myself to output audio and video to my HDTV.

Exactly. I doubt the VGA to DVI adapters work all that well either. I know when you use them in Linux on the desktop, there are sometimes issues. At least, the issues I found I attribute it to this until I learn of another reason.

Anyway, my complaint was about price and the idea of even just manufacturing a notebook with only a VGA port for the video out. There is no reason to. The SR series has the new Intel X4500 which supports HDMI so there would be a neglible cost to adding the HDMI to the laptop.

As has been stated before, if you look at the SR, there looks to be a placeholder for an HDMI port right next to the VGA port. Perhaps it was considered and then scrapped or will be implemented in an SR refresh...

sony is just stupid like that that's why..or "smart" they love to purposely leave stuff out, in my opinion, so when they refresh it, they get even existing customers wanting the new refresh of that model.

stupid or smart? up to you. i say selfish, but who GAF...this is the world and how it works. there's no honest company for the customer anymore.

i am with you puter1. there is realy no reason to go with vga these days on a new notebook. even cheap displays and beamers today come with dvi-d inputs.

but sony is not the only manufacturer leaving out hdmi/dvi. perhaps this will change with display port - since there are no fees for implementing it.
