I received my new SR290 titanium gray yesterday but the only part that is gray is the lid of the laptop. Everything else including the inside keyboard surface area is all silver which wasnt what i had in mind. Is anyone else surprised besides me?

also i was looking for any parts of the laptop that is made of magnesium alloy but so far i have not been able to clearly identify just what parts of the laptop is actually made of magnesium alloy. I did the tapping on metal test to see if there is any metal anywhere on the laptop but found none, is that correct?

Ya only the lid is suppose to be the color titanium. I believe the chassis is made of the mag. alloy.

If I tap on the laptop there is supposed to be some sort of metal echo but so far i hear plastic echoing.

I just ordered a SR290 in Titanium Gray because Sony FORCED me to get it. I really wanted to get it in Night Black but I couldn't because of my configuration. Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the lid and replace it with a Night Black one? If so, anyone interested in swapping their Night Black lid for a Titanium Gray one?

I don't know about the magnesium, but from what I have seen the titanium gray is the same as a silver model EXCEPT the LCD surround and cover is medium gray and the keyboard keys are black. Other than those three parts (screen bezel and back, keyboard) I think the computer is virtually a silver model.

I like Silver Color First - Black Next. Titanium Grey is neither here nor there.

    thanks for confirming HRTex!
Wish i knew before ordering. would of went for all black design.
also can you confirm where the magnesium alloy is found as i cannot detect it anywhere. or maybe the the whole construction is an alloy with a combination of 5% magnesium and 95% plastic?

Magnesium doesnt feel like that, besides that metal echo you hear is from metal structures that are hollow inside...your just hearing reverbirations bouncing around inside. Don't tap your screen... it has critical and not rugged circuitry in there....

I've had a mangesium mp3 player before, its a soft metal...so it wont feel like stainless steel to the touch... but it will get very cold in cold weather if you want some kind of superficial evidence of the fact that the lid, the bottom, and the internal chassis are magnesium, the palmrests, and sides are plastic...

The Titanium Grey is different than the Silver model, it's a much darker grey - closer to a charcoal. They have these models on display in SonyStyle stores and I also saw one in a Circuit City.

Personally I was not surprised because I had seen it in person and thought it looked really nice and unique, better than the black which was available on the low end models. But really they all look great, even the silver looked better in person than in pics.

You can see all four colours on the image on this page:

Silver is on the end and Titanium is next to the black. :)

I've got my earlier this week, but only have time to work on it(semi clean and install some softwares) over the weekend.
Mine was Titanium Grey except it is silver on keyboard part and keyboard is black. It looks somewhere unmatched since the LED is Titanium and bottom is silver. Well, the black keyboard and silver really match well however.

The SR silver is tacky as all hell, and predictably is the only "choice" the UK is given. I refuse to buy another plasticky silver painted gadget, and am headed to Z-ville. PC World (of all places) had the SR and Z side-by-side and the differences were clear - Z is a class act.
