    Hey guys,

    *edit*
Just to let everyone know! I posted this deal on Slickdeals and now the promotional price is sold out. Sorry guys, I tried to give you a heads up. Anyways, I feel really bad now.. Sorry again everyone, I should of waited longer before I posted on Slickdeals because you all have been so helpful to me. I just didn't it through, oh well.

So I've been deciding on whether to buy the sr, sz, or z series vaio. Well NewEgg just did a $100 price drop right after their first $50 price drop promotion ended. So I decided to get the SZ because the price was too good to avoid.

I for some reason like the SZ model. Just a personal preference, I just really can't explain it but I like the SZ.

The SZ does indeed have some advantages, like hybrid graphics and carbon fiber casing (I think).

I'm probably going to love my SZ. Too bad you didn't get the extra $50 discount but you still got a heck of a deal (compared to SonyStyle's price).

Those are indeed the 2 advantages of SZ.
SR has many advantages too. About every part is faster than the SZ. (CPU, memory, GPU, harddrive, FSB)

The SZ you can use a docking station with it if you also get a more equipped model you will have built in WWAN as well which is very useful for many people these days.

FYI... The SZ750N is at Best Buy on clearance for... alot less than you think. Ask them to do a search of the stores around your location and you will find the lowest price. Not all stores have the same price!!! AND they will not match eachother! (Don't know if you're allowed to post prices here)

Got mine there for less than the lowest possible price on the internet.

Interesting thread , im currently deciding on whether to go for a £410 SZ2 or a £900 SR

I dont think the SR is £500 better so i think i'll go for the SZ

SR with IGP will be similar to SZ in stamina I believe.

Sony UK claims that they got 300 minutes with Mobilemark 2007. That's a lot.

Thats nice, still I am prejudiced towards SZ ;).. just that it gives me the option to switch.. and SR is only marginally better in specs..

I thought about getting an SZ3-SZ5 but then i changed my mind and decided to look at getting an SZ6 or SZ7 and ended up with an SZ7 because i got one for a good price.

The older SZ models i read some complaints about the chassis being less than solid.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=2561717&postcount=26

Also the older models did not support Direct X 10. Battery life is also meant to be superior on the SZ6 and SZ7.

    Here are a couple reviews-
MobileMark 2007 tests tallied 3 hours 49 minutes of battery life with its 63-Wh battery. The previous model, the Sony VAIO VGN-SZ370P, scored only 2:43. The improvement in battery life results from the Penryn processor core's greater energy efficiency. If you select the integrated graphics, battery life gets an additional hour and 17 minutes, for a total of 5 hours 6 minutes, according to MobileMark 2007—though you get a performance hit on 3D content.

Aside from the build issues though the SZ2 is still a decent laptop though if it meets your needs.

If you decide to look at the SZ6/7 here are a couple of reviews. You probably could pick up an SZ6/C for around £600-£700 on Ebay if you are lucky. There are is one for auction on there right now if you search on the model number you will find it.

then again, a 1st Gen SR might have big problems

I know some people said this but I personally do not share this opinion. The user reviews are not mentioning heat and I don't think Sony has a reputation for releasing products too early.

Although there may be some problems involving the Intel IGP and WLAN, I think these problems are fixed before release. The Newegg one is already a pretty safe bet, in my opinion.

i souly bought the SZ series just for its amazing looking keyboard... and also the 2 toned looked prety cool too...

i like the SR's graphics card though IMO... but the way that keyboard looks just doesn't do its justice.

also the the SZ i bought just went up today... i bought it for 1450 and now its 1550... and i bought this thing like last month.. you just have to catch things at the right time. i just baught it right when it dropped 100 dollars.

if you keep track on things on newegg all the laptops will go and down prices. but 100bux is no biggery for newegg. it does it all the time with moving up and down the prices.
