    Hi,
i got my new Sony SZ1 - with Core Duo 1,83 GHz. Very nice Notebook.

But one thing is realy bothers me.
The whole Notebook is vibrating. Directly after powering on, the notebook vibrates. i think it comes from the CPU Fan, or from the HDD. is there some setting in the bios to correct this?

Has someone the same experience? I am not sure if something with the cpu fan is wrong.

    sorry for my bad english.

    best regards

    eric kraemer

Didn't I already answer this on the "other" forum? With no response?

 Hah! Yeah, I saw this one "over there" as well. Guess he's casting his net wide! So the hard drive tends to vibrate while idling, huh? Is it, like, a problem? Are are we just being a little picky about a super-expensive laptop? ;) I def. would be too. Is it the noise that's noticeable, or just the vibrations?

The vibration is very slight and is a by-product of the faster spinning hard drives. I have a 7200 RPM drive in my SZ and I do feel a slight vibration. The SZ exhibits the problem more than other notebooks for a few reasons. The drive is located directly underneath the palmrest and is mounted directly to the chasis. There isn't any vibration dampening material that you normally find. The palmrest is metal and doesn't dampen the vibration much before passing the vibration to the wrists. BTW, there is some white noise from the drive. The noise and vibration is very subtle and isn't a problem.

Yeah, that's what I suspected(re mounting and dampening).
