    Hi All

I was just wondering is it common to have a defective multimedia card reader that came with our vaio sz.

It seems my card reader refused to read anytype or anybrand of SD cards. Wether they are SD, Mini SD (with case) or Micro SD (with case attachment).

When i insert a SD card in and try to read it. It freezes "file explorer or my computer". But the Sony Memory stick reader works fine.

Have anyone experienced this problem? I'm thinking about calling the call centre to get it replaced.

I am not familiar with Sony notebooks, so forgive me if I show my ignorance, but you might try reinstalling the card reader drivers (especially if you've reformatted).

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come along.

Yes, vespoli is right. Try dealing with the driver first. That's usually why your Windows machine freezes up.

Cool i'll give that a go, hopefully it will work..

But since it is NEW, wouldn't it be factory condition?

Same problem here. But the issue might also be related to card brand, as some suggest.

SZ340P here...my kingston mini sd card works fine. Maybe it's the SD card adaptor problem? Is the mini sd inserted into the adaptor correctly?

the mini sd needs to be inserted into a regular sized SD card (adaptor). Then the regular SD card is inserted into the card reader.

I am running XP. I have not changed anything from the original configuration.
Thanks for asking! Sure glad I know how to put a mini SD inside of a regular SD adapter.

I just got off the phone with Tech Support. I wanted to hang myself for the first 40 minutes while I was talking to tier 1. My 10 year old knows more than they do!!
They tell me the issue is know and that the actual piece needs to be replaced. They set up a return for me so they could replace the defective part in the computer.
If you are having this problem please call Sony and go to tier 2.
    FYI

Same here, My Adapter read the SanDisk MS Pro Duo just fine. But won't read SanDisk MicroSD or Kingston MiniSD at all. It will freeze my explorer when trying to access the drive.

The strange thing is when I ran Everest's Disk Benchmark, It can see and identified size of my MicroSD !!! ,but freeze when the benchmark started.

I think the cause of this problem is probably the driver, not the adapter.

Anyone comes up with any ideas?

I was told by Sony (whatever that is worth) that a part has to be changed inside the machine. Not the adapter. They authorized a return to do this. They also acted like it was a known issue.

Has anyone sent their computer back for this probelm? They are covering it under warranty.
