Sony SZ Premium Carbon fibre same SZ1-7?

Hi, i own a SZ71WN/C that comes with a black carbon fibre lid.
I want to upgrade this to a premium carbon fibre lid.
The ones in the UK for the SZ1-5 are a little bit cheaper. The North American models did not have an SZ5/X model.

Basically i would like to know were the designs for the SZ1-7 premium models any different? Or do the SZ6/X-SZ7/X models lids designed differently and if so how? Are they stronger etc?

Would one even fit? I think all the 13.3 LED models share the same screens so it should fit. If you have owned a SZ1-5/X and a SZ6/7/X how did they look to you?

I cannot find anything about a possible difference in patterns.
If you know about this could you link for me the differences in patterns between both of these models SZ1-5 SZ6-7/X.

I have also seen some nice lids that were offered in Japan.

I was wondering where people get Sony spare parts in Japan?

I may just in time put down the $247 for the SZ7/X lid in the US if i need to but that is kind of the last resort.

I have looked at skins and i don't really like skins to much.

 

Yes, there are slight differences cosmetically.

SZ381 & SZ491 - Lid is more blackish in color. The Vaio logo is dark gray & non-shiny.
SZ691 & SZ791 - Lid is more brownish in color. The Vaio logo is silver & shiny.

This is very interesting. I always assumed and took for granted that the SZ7/C SZ7/X had the same Vaio logo - the dark version. My Vaio logo on my SZ7/C is quite dark. I actually prefer that.

I was not positive which model the lid design was for in the middle but i guess now that was the lid then for the SZ1-5.

I just had a look at your SZ7 photo thread and for the first time ever actually noticed that the logo is silver and not dark grey.

So you think you can use an SZ3 lid for an SZ7?
Other than design the quality of materials/strength is the same?
Which one looks better to you?
I think after seeing those pictures that i do actually like the SZ3 lid more.

 

I'm not sure if the connectors for the lid & bezel will fit interchangeably between my SZ381 & my SZ791 because I've never opened up the LCD lids & so on.

However, you might want to take note that one of the things Sony changes when they went from the "gunmetal" palmrest SZs to the black palmrest SZs is that they increase the thickness of the LCD lid & bezel combo due to customer complaints about the super-thin screen & the concerns that it is easy to break the screen, etc.

Both the Premium Carbon lids look nice in their own way. Unfortunately, I cannot give you any suggestions on which one looks better because this is subjective. Hope you understand.

 

Thanks SpeedwithJJ so i guess that is a no go then because of the fact that the newer lids are thicker. I saw a SZ5/X lid on ebay and i was going to go for it.
