Alright, I am sure you all have heard this question before, but it's my turn to ask it.

I have been around these forums for a couple months now or more and I have finally reached the point where I need to order a laptop. I need to recieve it by the begining of September at the latest. I know that's probably not going to work to get Merom...

I want to know if anyone compared the Sony SZ Premium model with the Asus W7J.

    Which is thiner and lighter?

Which has a better build quality or are they about the same?

    Better screen?

After researching them it seems they both basicly have the same specs, though the W7J has that bad soldered ram that I could probably live with.

Which is the winner? (I know the price difference, but in terms of quality and everything.) This might be a biased forum so I am posting it in the other one too ;)

SZ Premium is lighter. Haven't seen the build quality of the w7j to compare.

Anyone else have anymore comments before I place an order?

Should I wait for the updated model? SZ3xx? ETA?

    Thanks.

Unless you have an excessive amount of money, you're better off buying a 2,099 SZ-250 model and paying for separate parts.

    *laugh*

    Nuntius,

Aren't you an owner of the SZ premium yourself?
    :)

    Hi MFL101,

The Asus gives the better bang for your buck.

Go for the Sony SZ only if you think it looks better to you.

I understand that there were complaints about the Asus fan exhaust direction. (Supposedly blows your right hand when using the mouse)

There are also complaints about the SZ's keyboard. (Which is also something which varies from person to person.)

Check them both yourself in person. You'll find the one best suited for you quickly enough.

There's no difference between the 250 and 260/270/280 except for internals.
I like saving people money :p

I figure that Sony is getting ready to release their SZ3XX series shortly since they are out of stock on all SZ Premiums except the 270, thus why I ordered that model.

The Sony rep told me I have 30 days to return the laptop (I have to just pay for shipping charges back to them, but no restocking fee or anything) That way if in the next 30 days the SZ3XX comes out I will just order one and return the SZ270 for a full refund.

Works best for me since I need the laptop ASAP.

I'm confuzzled as to why you are purchasing direct from Sony.
You should only do that if you want to configure a 240.

I checked around for prices, I couldn't find anything that was much cheaper than direct from Sony.

I wanted the 2 year accidental damage warranty and I wanted the ability to return it for a full refund (no restocking fees or anything) for 30 days.
