I read a post here a while back with a tempurature poll, was having a hard time finding it now though. I am a new sony sz330p owner and love it so far, except for the fact that it gets extremely hot it seems.

Now I know there is a speed/stamina option on the notebook, and under stamina with 100% cpu my temps get up around 70ish. After switch to speed, and running a couple rounds of 3dmark 2005 my laptop gets extremely hot to the touch, and NHC shows my temps around 85C which as far as I know, that is very hot. I'm sure that the geforce adds some heat there, but thats a huge increase, should I be worried? Idle on stamina is 43C and idle on speed is around 49-50C.

I have, just to make sure, blown out the inside (didn't get anything out that I saw) with compressed air. Ya know, just to make sure there is no dust inside, etc. What should I do? I am scared to try and pull the machine apart for arctic silver etc, is that necessary?

I would not worry too much. The SZ is a subnotebook packed with stuff. Airflow will always be a problem with those systems. I optimized mine using AS5 on my T2500 CPU. The idle temp using speed mode is in the mid 40s and the load temp does not get above 80 no matter what I do.

Also making use of the Vista power management features helps. If I just wanna work I use a power scheme that holds the CPU at 50% (1GHz per core on mine), that way I run along idleing below 40 in stamina mode.

Also if you play or do very CPU intense tasks at home, using a notebook cooler helps a lot. I use one from akasa (mainly because it creates an angle which makes the keyboard much more comfy to use), that brought down temps by 5 degrees.

The hardware can take above 100 before it suffers. So mid 80s under load is ok and does not harm the system. I saw the same the first days with my SZ2. But using AS5 and the akasa cooler the temp now ranges in the mid 70s when playing COH or something of that sort. That is very good for such a tightly packed system.

Nothing to worry about...most if not all modern CPUs will start to throttle down their speed if they start getting too hot to avoid any type of damage. 80C with 100% CPU doing gaming is perfectly fine.

Think of it as a car, you can drive it at 30mph or 80mph, it can also go all the way up to 150mph+ but most cars have a speed limiter which stops them going over 130mph...same thing with a CPU...if it gets too hot, it'll slow down and let itself cool off.

    those are very high temps.
in task manager are there any processes that run near or at 50% when you reach those temps?

The OP said those are temps when he is running the CPU @ 100%.

Those temps sound OK when running at max. The only difference really between Stamina and Speed is the GPU. The GPU gets very hot under load.
