I have questions regarding with WWAN that is included with some Sony SZ notebooks. I have tried www.sony.com/cingular but their information is very sketchy.

    1. Can I subscribe from another provider and use their simcard instead of the simcard included with the notebook?
    2. What is the max theoretical speed supported by the hardware?
    3. Can it be used anywhere in the United States, just like using your cellphone?
    4. What is the quality of the connection?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Yes, but you have to unlock the edge modem first (by calling Sony support)
    2. EDGE can carry data speeds up to 236.8 kbit/s for 4 timeslots (theoretical maximum is 473.6 kbit/s for 8 timeslots)
    3. Yes, if there's coverage in the area. Speed varies in edge and non-edge areas.
    4. Not bad, if you have edge in the area with good reception.
