I know that the Sony SZ non-premium has a magnesium alloy body for the case and the lid. The Premium versions have carbon fiber. Besides the slight difference in weight and look, is the magnesium alloy body any weaker than the carbon body or feel flexy? Also, I am hearing about how the thin carbon fiber lid can be easily warped on the edges and is very thin, hence it doesn't feel as sturdy. It also scratches easily. Does the lid with the magnesium alloy feel significantly better and is it much more scratch-resistant?

For the LCD, the non-premium has fluorescent backlighting while the premium has LED backlighting. Do they essentially use the same screen but with different backlighting? Or is my understanding a little shortsighted? Other than being brighter for the LED backlit screen, is there any other difference? People have claimed better viewing angles and color, but is that just due to brightness and not an actual LCD panel/screen difference? Isn't the regular fluorescent lit one bright enough? Don't the two screens have similar quality when viewed at equal brightness? I've heard most people turn down the brightness from the maximum on the LED lit screen, so is the extra brightness negligible unless someone on average actually needs a much brighter screen?

Sorry for so many questions. Trying to justify my NOT getting a Sony SZ premium as they are expensive and am worried about lowered ruggedness due to its thinner nature. I don't want to compromise solidarity over form and definitely don't want any scratches.

So SHOULD I get a Sony SZ NON-PREMIUM?

I have no idea how the screens work, except for the fact that when I was at Best Buy, the non premium SZ screen was one of the dimmest there. Even at full brightness. The FZ even beat it.

i have a non premium one and the casing is pretty stiff, really durable i would say. it'll last years, also the screen is plenty bright for me, unless you're sitting outside in bright sunlight, then it could be brighter because of the reflection. but really, if you want more performance for less, get the regular sz. you'll be happy. the regular version is ~4lbs, while the premium is ~3.7, not much of a difference.

i think the premium is much lighter at a very comfutable weight, the carbon fiber is amazing, solid and steady, LED backlight is good as hell, brightly colored, clarity, best screen ever. also longer battery life.
