The sony sz will be released in the uk sometime later this month, but the european sony website gives sz model numbers that are quite different from the US ones, e.g. sz1xp, sz1vp etc etc:

    http://shop.sonystyle-europe.com/SonyStyle/catalog/products.do

How comparable are they to the US versions? It's all a bit confusing

also, does anyone have any ideas which stores i can buy them from in the uk? The guy at the sony store was a moron who told me it weighed the same as an FE and there was no return policy. They didn't even stock any S series vaios for me to have a feel of the weight. He told me i just had to pay up front just to see one, and there's no way to return it if i didn't like it. Service for ya! I'd much rather buy from John Lewis's (a department store) thank you very much.

AFAIK the SZ series machines arrived in the UK last Friday and are now readily available all over the net and in stores.

    Check Microanvika
    http://www.microanvika.com/default.asp

or root around shopping.com for below list prices
    http://uk.shopping.com/?drd=1

They are are pretty much the same machines except we can't configure ours in the way the Americans can through Sonystyle. The top of the range model SZ1VP is only available through Sonystyle, the other three are available all over.

As far as I am aware the premium model is the SZ1VP which has the T2500 chip and is only available through Sonystyle. Your model has the T2400 chip. Not a bad machine though ;) depending on who you read

I am sure for most intents and purposes there is not a blind bit of difference except the kudos.

awww, The electronic stores in Scotland are ****, I'm guessing they think all the Scots are cheapskates and won't splash out on a piece of quality like this. It's near impossible to even see an SZ out here.

BTW, the SZ1VP is the exclusive model, but the 1XP version is still Premium, as it comes with carbon fibre and all that stuff that space shuttles are made of (probably). I think this is the main distinction between premium and non-premium, rather than the processor.

I wonder if the slightly slower processor may help increase battery life?

Ordered mine from eBuyer last night - just under £1450 with next day delivery. Much more than I can afford in all honesty!

My first Sony machine since the lovely little Japanese PCG-U1 - a lovely subsubnoteboook that I had no problems with. Fingers crossed I won't need to have any dealings with Sony Support with the SZ either.

    Chris.

I have found where i will be buying mine from: CCL looks like a nice and trusted store, and i can go in and have a look once they stock up since they're up here in the north (Bradford).

On this website, ebuyer had quite a few customers slating them. I hope all goes well with your order though Chris, good luck!
