Can someone explain (or direct me to a link on) the naming system used by Sony for its SZ models? For example, how can I tell how VGN-SZ240P08 differs from from VGN-SZ360P/C? Thanks in advance.

Select your model and download the marketing specification pdf file for each model you want to compare. -
Thanks, that's useful information. But the whole point of understanding the system Sony uses (if, in fact, there is a system) is to avoid just that painstaking and time-consuming comparison and allow different models at different prices to be compared easily. Does anyone know if there is indeed a rational model-naming system?

Here's what I know. Any model that ends with the letter X has Premium Carbon Fiber casing, letter C has Regular Carbon Fiber casing, and the letter B has Magnesium Casing.

What's the
- cheapest SZ2xx (Core Duo) with DVDRW and carbon casing?
- cheapest SZ3xx (Core 2 Duo) with DVDRW and carbon casing?

I'd like to renew my original question, since no one has really answered it completely. Can anyone explain the naming system (letters and numbers) of the Sony SZ series in terms of the laptop's configuration?

SZ320P/B, SZ330P/B are fixed SKU models. The P stands for XP Pro, and the B indicates the case color (i.e. Black)
The SZ340 series is the build to order models, with SZ340P3 or SZ340P11 being different set configurations sold to distributors like CDW, NewEgg or others.
SZ350P/C and SZ360P/C and it's ilk are again set configurations, with P standing for XP Pro, and C standing for Carbon Fibre casing.
Best way to tell the difference? Look at the specs and see what differs. Thats the only way you're going to do so.
