I just got my Sony SZ, but cannot get it to connect to the internet using the wireless connection. When I scan for wireless networks the comp picks mine up, I then connect to it with excellent signal strengh but no internet. When I run ipconfig I have DNS, IP etc, but the comp will not connect to the internet. The router is a linksys if that helps any. Any suggestions that might fix the prob are greatly appreciated.

I tried disabling the firewall but that did not work. As far as the router settings I have no idea how to change those, however, any laptop with a wireless card has no problems getting connection through my router. Can u tell me how I would change the settings around though and see if that would work. Again thanks for the help!

Router settings are changed using a web based interface. locate a manual for the router, and you'll have everything you need to get in there and make it worse ;)

Try deleting the wireless profile for the network you are trying to access. Also, in your internet browser options, under connection settings, go to LAN settings. make sure you everything is correct there, ie, proxy address, auto...
In a plain jane wireless setup, nothing should be checked there.

hi prominence i hada similar problem which was fixed by installing third party software (belkin) to manage a belkin card i installed cos i needed the net till i got a solution. i then uninstalled it to play around with the wireless options and amazingly it worked 100%

ok so i know this isnt much of a solution

but my advice try installing another wireless card use it then uninstall it i have a feeling it reverts everything to default settings

    hope it helps

I had the same problem too. I fixed it by changing the power management of my wireless card to full in the Network adapter tab in device manager.

Update on the prob... I managed to mess around with the router settings, the werid thing is I can connect to the router and change settings on laptop but not on my desktop i cant connect to the router to change the setting???? after messing with the settings I noticed that the router ip and the laptop ip were the same doh! so i changed it around and got internet!!! The comp prompted for a restart and then back to square one. I restored all defaults on router and made sure ips were not the same but no internet this time. I dont believe the problem is the actual card b/c I can pick up wireless connections. Even my neighbors are showing up there. The comp connects succesfully but it will not let me get online. Anyway thanks for suggestions, if anyone else has any insight please post up. I was soooo close.....

If it is an IP address problem, you need to change the router's dhcp pool settings so that they do not include the same address that teh router lan address is using. ie, if the router's lan ip address is 192.168.0.30, make sure the dhcp pool usses a range before or after that address (192.168.0.31 thru 192.168.0.100).

I would suggest d/l the latest drivers from Intel. I had somewhat flaky connections with the original drivers. I've been using the generic drivers and app from Intel for the past couple of weeks. I d/l a new version last night that seems to work quite well. When installing it make sure to install the Intel app. Reboot and let the Intel app control your wireless connections. I'm constantly on the run during the day so my SZ has to access multiple access points. The Intel software is more reliable, stable, and faster to authenticate than using Windows.

My internet is finally up! I really hope no one else has this prob but what fixed it for me was completely disabling Norton, and holding the reset button down on router and set it back to defaults. I then manually set the ip's to make sure nonthing conflicted and I have internet! All the input was really appreciated thank you once again.
