I have a sony vaio vgn-sz450n/c and a few months ago I notices whenever I am in stamina mode, my sound does not work. Everything works fine when the switch is on "speed".
I can temporarily fix the problem by disabling and re-enabling the sound driver in Device Manager. Unfortumately, the next time I reboot or shut the computer down, or the next time I switch from speed to stamina mode, the same thing happens.....no sound
Looking in device manager shows all drivers to seemingly be installed and working correctly.
Also, I have tried installing an older sound driver from the sony site, but still it does the same thing. (installing the sound driver again, temporarily fixes the issue, but only until the next reboot or the next change from speed to stamina mode)
I have tried multiple levels of support on the sony vaio chat line, but as usual, they kept me on hold for multiple times over two hours with their only real suggestion being to reformat my hard drive and start over.
Doing a search on the internet, I did come across a couple others with the same issue, asking questions on forums.....but without any solution.
Any ideas? Any better suggestions then to reformat and start over?

same problem here, still not found a solution. believe its something to do with an update for vista, but not had a chance to look into it further...

When you are in Stamina mode I assume you are using the battery and the computer is not plugged in? If this is the case then make sure sound is enabled under Vaio Power Management.
Note, I am using Windows XP so I dont know about the Vista version. -
It was a software conflict of some sort.
After further evaluation, it seemed to be related to:
1) Intel 945 onboard video driver giving me error message that could not find enough resourses (error 12)
2) No audio, could temporarily fix if disable/enable driver, but again would not work after reboot
3) Hibernate and sleep are entirely disabled.
Reloading to a very old backup is only thing that fixed it. After looking into it on the internet, I think it had to do with a windows vista update on or around november 2007 that messed the whole thing up. I never used this onboard video card, but used the "speed" setting with the nvidia card instead, but lately that card has stopped working and I think it is no longer working at all. My speed mode switch no longer does anything.
Sony SZ-No audio or sound when in "Stamina Mode"
