Hey there Timelockmind,
I noticed you are one of the few , if only person with the SZ160 model in hands.
My biggest question on this model is how is the screen on the SZ160 Premium screen with LED back lighting compared to the SZ110/120/140 models? There seem to be many complaints with the quality of the screen and uneven lighting on the standard models. Is the Premium screen that much better? Anyway to compare?
If this has already been addressed I apologize. If not, I am truly interested in finding out!
Thanks,
Hayden

YES, PLEASE!!! I have an SZ110 that I will return in a heartbeat if the premium has anything NEAR the screen of the FE... not that my screen is bad, but I don't spend $2000 every day, and I'm willing to spend a little more if it's a truly better display!

I have not physically taken my 160 and placed it next to a 110/120/140 unit. However, when I first saw the non-premium model at Best Buy I was not impressed. The white backgound appeard "dirty" and the colors were simply not virbrant (both in speed mode and stamina mode). I spent a good amount of time playing the the NVidia control panel - it didn't make much difference.
I didn't know what to expect with the 160. In bought it sight unseen, took it home, turned it on and... WOW!!! The color saturation, cripness, brightness are all first rate. The FE's exceptional display uses an "x-brite high color" screen which is a slight cut above the 160's quaility (but not by much). I don't know for sure, but I suspect the premium SZs use a diffent screen technology to achieve the razor thin design.
For me, the screen quality was a deal breaker. $2500 is a lot of money. There is no doubt in my mind that the screen quailty, build quaity, horsepower, 3.7 lb weight, and "cool" factor justifies the price. In my opinion, the 160 is second to none for an ultraportable. -

I couldn't have said it any better myself... I don't think ANYONE could have said it any better - that was awesome!!!

There was no comparison where the SZ160 is much vibrant and the SZ140 colors are totally off with a lot of yellow tint on the desktop screen of VAIO. It is lighter with a thinner screen and different keyboard panel. -
I agree. The screen on the non premium models is aweful. Almost as bad as the FJ. The premium screen looks just like the TX for those of you that can not find a SZ premium for a comparison.

sz premium model has much much superior lcd than that of tx.
much brighter no light leakage problem which all tx have. -

The screen on my 160 was most definitely superior in every way.
Brighter, more vivid and accurate colors.
The standard screen's colors were noticably more washed out.
I am a VERY picky screen viewer...and I am thrilled with the screen quality of my 160.

The SZ160's screen looks fantastic to me. Nice clean, pure whites... and it's about twice as bright as my previous laptop (which was rated pretty good at the time).

I owned a 120 before I returned it for a 160. After powering up the 160, I immediately noticed the difference between the two screens. It was brigher, clearer, and cleaner. A significant difference.

Same here - I had a 110 before returning it for a 160. The difference in screen quality is definitely worth the money to me.

Where are you people returning these standard models and picking up the premium 160? Those 160s are hard to find and don’t stay on the shelf for more than a day. The only place I have heard of the standard (120) on the same shelf as the premium (160) was Fry’s. But those 160s are sold fast.

I returned and picked up the premium model last week at compusa. I was questioning my chocie to buy a non premium over a premium, but I didn't have much choice because that wass the only model they had. so I bought the 120 and a week later, I checked the compusa website for a sz160 and it said limited quantities. i called and checked and found that they had one left. I reformatted the 120 and picked up the sz160 the same day.
