    Hello, Forum...

My boss recently purchased the SZ160P/C which it is now my job to support. Overall, its a nice machine. I did a clean install, and its humming along smoothly.

Yesterday, my boss told me that after using the wireless LAN on battery, he closed the lid to put it in standby. When he did, the WLAN light stayed on. The system was authentically in standby...no doubt there. But the light stayed on anyway, and he was curious as to why.

When the system is plugged in to power and you close the lid, the WLAN light goes out immediately. Likewise, if Bluetooth is on instead of WLAN, that light goes out regardless of whether you're on battery or AC.

Has anyone seen this, or know what to do about it? It doesn't seem like much of an emergency, but anyone's thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks!
    -Barry

Yes, i have problem with that as well. It ONLY happens on battery. It happens on RANDOM occasions. Very irregular. I have a SZ120P/B. Partial Clean-Install.

I have observed that when the WLAN light remains on (all other lights off, standby light blinking) during standby that the machine USUALLY have trouble resuming operation. Blank screen, all lights on except for hard disk activity light. Keyboard seems to be responsive (tested with caplock). Ctrl-Alt-Del has no effect. The one way to resolve the issue is to hold power button until the machine turns off.

I ALWAYS close the lid to enter standby. (This option can be enabled in the power management option)

Let's hear it from everyone else! : )

Why standby? Hibernate is better. Hibernate writes an image of what is in ram, to the HD, and then powers down the pc completely. No lights, nothing. Then, when you resume from hibernate, it loads the image from HD to ram. Very quick, and painless. I have mine set to hibernate when I press the power button, and resume when I open the lid. Works great on this machine.
