    Hello:

Recently, I have noticed that the fan on my notebook has been running at very high speeds (annoying). I turned down the fan speeds in the power management menu, but the problem lingered.

I opened up the back to check if the heatsink was loose. While it wasn't loose, the thermal compound on the CPU had virtually disappeared. I cleaned the residual and applied some AS5. The fan speed has gone down considerably since.

Would any of you know is the GPU located on this notebook? I didn't see it when I opened the notebook. I only opened the access panels (RAM & CPU) but did not completely remove the entire bottom cover of the notebook. I wanted to clean the GPU and apply a clean layer of thermal compound to it.

As a side note, I didn't install 4.0GB of RAM in the notebook. BIOS reads 3.0GB, however Vista reas 4.0GB. Will the notebook use the full 4.0GB or just the 3.0GB shown by BIOS?

    Thanks,
    Claude

Regarding the RAM, your CPU limits it to 3GB.
