Sony is over rated when it comes to notebooks, they charge way too much for what you actually get.

Anybody know SZ390 is probably the last one of SZ family or Sony may continue to release some other series?

it weights 4.0 pounds, so it's not premium.

the premium is definitely worth the money. it's lighter and the screen is actually too bright at the highest settings. seriously. the keyboard also seems to be more solid. to each his own.

As soccy said, in the specs it specifically says that the notebook weighs 4.07 lbs and has a charcoal black magnesium casing. Thus it is not a premium, unless those specs there are wrong. See here right towards the bottom of the page.

    Its definatly a Premium SZ.

That was a typo error from Sony.

SZ x10 to SZ x40 = Regular SZ

SZ x50 to SZ x90 = Premium SZ

    These are Sony's exact words...

    Premium Portability
The VGN-SZ390 CTO Series notebook delivers intelligent mobile design while placing a priority on usability and performance. This slim, lightweight notebook PC measures a mere 1" thin159 and features a superb 13.3" widescreen display5 with XBRITE™ LCD technology, long battery life13 and a generous, comfortable keyboard
    .

    Notice the phrase Premium Portability
The remaining paragraph is full of errors

    Pls read link > http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INT...pu_VAIONotebookComputers_SZ390&Dept=computers

Besides why do we need another Intel Core 2 Duo SZ3 update when we already have the SZ340.

    So its definately a PREMIUM

With the SZ series you are primarily paying for portability and thinness; as it is, a GeForce 7400 in a laptop the size of the SZ is pretty damned impressive. If you have some ideas on how to fit a more powerful graphics card in a laptop with that form factor, I'm sure they would love to hear from you.

Also there is a $500 difference b/w the 340 and the 390 when configured the exact same.

Interesting comments on the Sony SZ390. I ordered mine last week fully loaded. This was done after much research, including looking into HP&IBM(trash), Apple etc... Sony beats them all in specs, etc… and within a small portable footprint. When it comes to quality Sony beats them all hands down.

You get what you pay for, period. Suck it up. This attitude of everyone wanting everything for nothing is pure ignorance. Many readers are tired of hearing it.

If Sony priced the SZ390 as low as the trash systems out there, everyone would be packing them. Since, they built a quality high-end Notebook it is expensive. However you cannot compare an Audi to a Ford. So give it up.

I have owned Sony Notebooks for many years, having a GRT270 running Linux non-stop since 08/2003 (Road Warrior). The SZ390 is its replacement (AR was too big), retiring the GRT270 to my kids.
