I got this laptop recently, and I had a question. It came with a 160 gig hdd, so naturally it is 142 hdd, but nearly half of that is already "used". I understand 20 gigs could be used for windows, but nearly 50 gigs? Something seems drastically wrong here...I know Sony is known for loading a bunch of bull**** programs, but how do I get rid of these?

Go to the control panel and look under the Programs and you can choose which bloatware youd like to remove. Naturally Vista takes up more memory and it was the same deal with me when I got my sz430 a couple weeks. I love this machine!!
The only gripe I have is battery time. I get approx 2 hours with max brightness and 2.5 hours with min brightness. It takes me about 4 hours to go from 5% to 100%. -
-
yea mine gets to 100%. Keep me updated on your charge times and battery times. Im very interested to know
-
I get about 2 hours. A little disappointed in that regard, looking to buy the extended battery.
-
yea well at least it applies to all the SZs, the new sz6 has about 2 hours also. Keep me updated with te charge time. Thanks!

I have deleted a lot of the bloatware, but it still doesnt seem to work. I have only about 30 gigs of my own stuff on this laptop, yet I only have 74 gigs out of 142?
-
wow that is pretty crazy, I would delete the antiviruses they offer and any trial offers they have also. They take up alot of memory. Delete MSWord trials
-
you can download free antivriuses and pctools online, you can also use torrents to find any program you want
-
ya,I have avg, which is free and small. something hidden is doing it...
-
wow that is really odd, because I have 68 gigs free left and thats after adding about 30 gigs of pictures and music from an external harddrive. So hopefully that should give a perspective on where you should be at.
-
On the note of your battery charge time, my light stops blinking at around 90% but looking at the meter is still charging and it charges all the way to 100%
-
if your battery life is 2 hours or below perhaps you need to tune the vaio power profiles a little bit more.
Full brightness optical drive activations etc.. -
I seem to remember hearing something about the SZ series shipping with Sony movies on the HDD that need to be unlocked with $$. Maybe that is what is taking up the space.
