So...I ended up getting the SZ460 - thanks to everyone who replied to me incessant messaging.

Now, that being said...I'm already having a few buggy errors:
    - Trying to upgrade some drivers, but Sony Download Taxi complains that I need to be logged in as an admin to do so...but I AM! I've googled this and I can't find anything..
    - Mozilla firefox SHAKES! The browser basically bounces...up and down...up and down...has anyone else had this issue? It's very wtfbbq.... *edit*: Just had to add a bookmark. Weird!!

oh and just to warn anyone who is getting this laptop: It comes with a lot of crap on it. Like AOL stuff, Napster, QuickBook...programs that you may or may not want...so you'll want to pend some time uninstalling it...

Is it weird that I didn't get a windows Vista CD with my laptop?

Turn off UAC. Launch the installation file as an administrator. Do the Right click and you will see the option something like "execute as an administrator."

Have you seen Apple commercial making fun of Vista security feature? I think what you are experiencing exactly that.

If I were you, I would just download the file without using Download Taxi and then run the setup file as administrator instead of turning off the security feature.

    I hope you enjoy your SZ460. :)

Yah! It's pretty annoying. Yes, put the file in the recycling bin. YES, allow this to happen. I mean, it would make sense if it was something that the user didn't directly command windows to do...
Thats what I ended up doing, even after I disabled UAC Sony Taxi whined that I wasn't an admin. Bah.
I'm enjoying it so far - it has its flaws (I keep comparing it to my old IBM laptop), but I'm pretty happy with it so far :D I just found out that the Sony Store man LIED...he said if I installed anything but Vista on the laptop my warranty would be void. I called Sony and they said to ignore him :p (Only because I think I might go back to XP...sweet, sweet XP)
I still don't like that I didn't get a Vista CD with the laptop - what if I want to format and reinstall Vista? I gotta bring it on somewhere? Le sigh!

VAIOs are known for both not including OS software with notebooks and for bundling a lot of crapware on new machines. Boo to both!

Welcome into the SZ fold! :D

You should definitely create recovery DVD just for that kind of circumstance as soon as possible. That's what I usually do with my new Vaio. Sony Recovery program will help you create bootable DVD with Vista and all the application which you could use when your machine needs fresh setup :)

Which store did you bought the SZ460? There's none in Sonystyle Canada. If you like discrete graphics, then the one you have is the smallest one available. For my taste, I am still looking for a dual core Vaio TX ;).

I bought it from the Sony Store in Toronto (Eatons Center). There were a couple left at the Eatons Center, and the last 3 SZ420 laptops went pretty darn quickly in Guelph (gone in 3 days!)
If you're looking into buying one, try haggling. I didn't know you can haggle, but I was offered $100 off, and I managed to convince him to go to $200 after a lot of "okay forget it, thanks but bye" kinda moments.

Thanks for the tip about the recovery DVD - I'll definitely look into that!

    yahh...about Norton...
I got a notice with the laptop saying that it's very important to use Live Update /w Norton to make sure that the system doesn't become unstable while creating a Personal Secure Drive or accessing PSD with the Trusted Platform Module (TPM)

Umm...I'm hoping that if I simply use an updated version of another antivirus software, I won't run into any problems. Does anyone know anything about this?
