Sonystyle Canada has the highest model that was available in Canada (sz650) up for preorder with availability for Aug 14. at 2499.99 CAD.

No hybrid hard drive, and only 5400 rpm :(

other than the warranty (I think), why would one buy it from sonystyle.ca for $2500, when it would be less than $2200 CDN + shipping from the US (650N/C is $2049, right?)

Any idea what shipping + duties would be from the US?

SonyStyle USA will not ship to Canada. The only way to get it there is to drive down yourself and hope for the best ride through customs.

If you are unlucky, at least computers are duty free. You'd have to pay GST and maybe even PST if you're very unlucky. So in Ontario, up to 14% on the value of the computer.

I ordered my sz650 from Sonystyle Canada last Thursday, it arrived on Monday. (free shipping, and a $100 discount code available). It does have the hybrid drive, although the spec page on the Sonystyle page does not mention it.

Is hybrid drive another word for hybrid graphics?

I only know hybrid graphics to be on SZ650.

The hybrid drive (from wikipedia): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hybrid_drive

A hybrid drive, a.k.a. Hybrid Hard Drive (HHD), is a new type of large-buffer computer hard disk drive. It is different from standard hard drives in that it employs a large buffer (up to 1 GB) of non-volatile flash memory to cache data during normal use. By primarily using this large buffer for non-volatile data storage, the platters of the hard drive are at rest almost all of the time, instead of constantly spinning as they are in current hard drives. This offers numerous benefits, chief among them speed, decreased power consumption, improved reliability, and a faster boot process.
